Is it because the Department of Infrastructure has recently stopped the need for regular Vehicle Road Worthy checks that we are seeing more vehicles with brake lights & headlights out?
Do your checks please!🚘🚙🛻

The Police Force have enough to do at the moment!

VERY DISSAPPOINTING to see Australian Government incentives for Apprentice Mechanics have HALVED in 2026, even though this trade is classified on the Priority List.

In 2026, Australia has a critical AND deepening shortage in the automotive industry, with over 30,000 unfilled roles.
Apprentice enrolments in the automotive trade have fallen by over 8%
The wording is "ADJUSTED" incentive structure.
Adjusted = halved

Very dissappointing as we encourage this next generation to look to trades & maintain our older or non electric vehicles.

As of February 9th 2026 these changes come into effect.

We’re making some changes to the light vehicle inspection regime to save you time, effort and money.

From 9 February 2026, light vehicles (up to and including 4.5 tonne GVM) will only need roadworthy inspections if 7 years and older and when:

• transferring ownership (can be completed by seller or buyer)
• re-establishing registration after a vehicle has not been registered in the NT for more than 12 months
• first registration in the Northern Territory (prior to compliance inspection for interstate transfers).

This means less hassle for Territorians while our inspectors focus on increased on-road safety checks to catch genuinely unsafe vehicles.

There will be no changes to the current inspection requirements for heavy vehicles or Commercial Passenger Vehicles.
