While the 2+2 Pontiac was in getting upgrades to his motor we were asked if we could address some issues with his column. The Indicators were quite stiff and didn’t like to cancel, and his horn consisted of a button under the dash.
Upon disassembling the original tilt column it was discovered that the horn mechanism was missing. This is not something that is readily available for the tilt column (standard column yes but not tilt) so after cleaning out the column we snuck a new horn wire up to the top, and made a new contact as well as extended the button on a new aftermarket horn spring so that it would reach. All the other contacts were cleaned, indicator mechanism assembled correctly, adjusted (not backwards) and lubricated. Giving him indicators that don’t need to be held on as well as a horn from the steering wheel.

This 2+2 Pontiac has quite a large camshaft with allot of overlap. Sounds tough but leaves allot to be desired when it comes to vacuum and therefore boosted braking. It originally had a piston style vacuum pump and tank mounted on the LHS of the engine bay. The issue with the pump was that it was very noisy and always on.
With a little bit of rewiring and relocation of the vacuum lines we hid a quieter and smaller Vane style vacuum pump behind the LH headlights. This makes for a more pleasant driving experience and a much cleaner engine bay while simultaneously giving the driver a nice brake pedal.

Not only were we upgrading from traditional carburettor Triples on this Pontiac 2+2 to Throttle body EFI’s we were also updating the ignition system to MSD controllable, fitting a new vacume pump for the brakes (this Pontiac motor has got a quite a large camshaft) and we were addressing the fans for his radiator as they were not running correctly. This meant we needed to turn our attention to the wiring. Never a good idea to have so many items running off your positive battery terminal, the fans were rewired to run off the EFI, his relays were reconfigured, a bus bar was run and hidden under the battery tray for all of the additional electrical items. The battery tray was then modified so that the new harness could run down and be hidden underneath and his tired old battery was replaced with a brand new Optima. Meanwhile the brain and bulk of the wiring for the EFI was mounted and hidden behind the front wheel on the inner guard. All in all a much neater, safer and cleaner electrical system which should guarantee a clean current to all the new equipment.

With the Triple FiTech EFI wired in it was time to turn our attention to the ignition system.
An MSD Ultra box was hidden under his dash, an MSD ready to run distributor, leads and coil fitted. Ensuring that this Pontiac now gets not only a clean delivery of fuel but also a nice strong spark.

With the intake manifold plate modified to run the new FiTech triple injection in the Pontiac 2+2 we turned our attention to the plumbing in of the lines and fitment of the fuel pump. As this client wanted us to tidy up his engine bay as well we made custom Stainless steel fuel lines and hid the rather large FiTech pump on custom mount behind his headlight.

Not just an engine upgrade in the 1955 , but a whole driveline, fuel system and exhaust upgrade.
