MIL, A PROPER LITTLE SHIP!
DESIGNED AND BUILT BY ONE OF SYDNEY'S MOST FAMOUS BOAT BUILDERS, CHARLES LARSON, MIL IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF AN OCEAN GOING YACHT! British Ship Registration 355072.
ARHV HV000690
Built at the Larson Yard and launched in 1950 MIL was built in collaboration with Larson and of her first owner John Thomas!
Larson was known for his strong and ocean worthy craft and was a devotee of the Colin Archer double ender style of yacht!

MIL shares many design characteristics with Larson's CATHLEEN GILLETT designed by Archer which was famously sailed in the first Sydney to Hobart yacht race and then undertook a circumnavigation of the world by her then owner artist Jack Earle.
At 30ft LOD 38ft LOA with a beam of 9.6ft a draft of 6ft and weighing in at 9.46 Tons, MIL'S 1 inch carvel planked White Beech hull and spotted gum ribs is incredible strong and built around a structure of small section, closely spaced frames supported by a number of stringers, a configuration seen on other Larson built yachts
MIL'S deck is also built of White Beech and equally substantial as the hull!
The current owner purchased MIL in 1968 and has lovingly maintained her to a very high standard for the last 54 years.
Recent upgrades include a new 30hp Yanmar motor and modern electronics and VHF radio.
MIL'S hand stitched cream sails compliment her beautiful timber mast and boom.
Below decks her cosy cabin is trimmed in beautiful Honduras Mahogany.
After a such a long love affair with MIL the owner has reached the difficult decision to find a new custodian who will continue to enjoy and care for MIL into the future!

MIL is currently moored at Kettering Marina in southern Tasmania and so can be viewed with ease on most days!
The sum of $25,000 is asked for her ownership and interested parties can contact us via Messager or email [email protected] or phone Colin Grazules on 0409 414 044.

ARCADIA II was completely rebuilt in Cygnet by Dale Walter in 2015 from an original hull built of the superb Tasmanian King William (Billy) Pine.
ARCADIA is 20ft LOA with a 7ft beam.
ARCADIA is powered by a 9.9 HP Yamaha high thrust outboard with remote steering at the helm station situated in the cabin for those Tassie days when you need to stay dry. The motor has low hours and has been recently serviced by Yamaha Huonville.
A chart plotter and hand held VHF radio are also fitted to the helm station.
There is a dedicated fridge locker complete with a Dometic fridge in the stern for your catch of the day or enough food for that weekend away!
ARCADIA has been well maintained since her rebuilt and has recently been slipped and antifouled in April 2024.
ARCADIA is currently moored in Port Cygnet Tasmania and her mooring is available for rent or purchase if required.

A TRULY BEAUTIFUL SURVIVER. "A well-built boat will survive the worst the sea or an owner can dish up."

While the builders of ROYAL have been lost in time, ROYAL exhibits all the qualities of a Victorian Queenscliff Couta Boat from the 1920โ€™s and resembles closely in design those boats built by Mitch Lacco and Peter Locke of Queenscliff. Built to fish for Barracouta in the treacherous seas of Bass Strait and return with a hull full of fish these boats were designed to bring the Queenscliff fisherman home safely.
ROYAL, was most possible named during the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Australia in 1927, an event that was enthusiastically celebrated by the whole nation.
In 1928 ROYAL was first reported as being owned by V. E Hall a Cray fisherman of Kingston South Australia. Queenscliff Couta boats were much sort after by the South Australian fisherman and were often purchased second hand from the Queenscliff fisherman but it is possible that ROYAL was built for V.E Hall.
On September 25th 1938, a terrible storm hit Kingston Beach where ROYAL and several other fishing vessels were moored. 3 boats including ROYAL were swept from their moorings with the two others smashed to pieces on the shore. Only ROYAL had disappeared, believed buried in millionโ€™s of tons of seaweed that was deposited on the beach during the storm, a feature once part of the South Australian coast. (Yes Thatโ€™s Millions of Tons!)
Presumed lost, fisherman probed the fifteen-foot bank of seaweed with stakes for two months and when all hope of finding ROYAL was lost only Mr Hall persisted. Finally the distinct sound of something solid was felt under the seaweed. After the seaweed was excavated, ROYAL was found to be in almost perfect order considering her ordeals.
From the evidence, ROYAL continued to fish for Crayfish for many more seasons. Eventually returned to Victoria where in March 1964, having outlived her usefulness as a fishing boat, was found neglected and almost beyond economical repair at Walshโ€™s Boatyard for sale, at the princely sum of ยฃ450.
Fortunately for ROYAL and despite Mr Walsh suggesting the boat was only suited for a bonfire, Mr Hans Lutjens was taken by ROYALโ€™S graceful shape and after peeling back the years of gunge revealing her beautifully built hull, ยฃ250 changed hands.
Hans took ROYAL to Mooroolbark and proceeded to transform ROYAL into a sturdy Motorsailer and renamed her BOHEME.
Launched in 1967, Hans Lutjens eventually decided to move to Kettering in Tasmania and take BOHEME with him.
By 2007 ROYAL had again fallen into disrepair with the cabin and deck removed and left under a tarp in the fishing village of Dover, with an owner daunted by the scale of work needed to restore her.
In another lucky twist of fate a group of enthusiasts sailors looking for a project and having heard reports of a Queensland Couta Boat under a tarp in Dover, went to investigate.
Changing owners again, ROYAL was trailered to the coastal hamlet of Cygnet Tasmania and there under the careful management of Master Shipwright Lindsay Wood, over the next seven years ROYAL was painstakingly returned to her original condition using many of the beautiful Tasmanian timbers available in this area.
After 10 years of enjoying sailing ROYAL in the beautiful waters of Port Cygnet, ROYAL is now ready for a new owner and her next adventure!
ROYALS dimensions are as follows:
28 feet LOA . 10 feet Beam. Draft of 3 feet and 6 feet with plate down.
Restoration notes from the Shipwright:
Full length New Zealand Kauri hull planking. Extensive use of Tasmania Huon Pine including all new ribs, Huon pine combing, Huon Pine centreboard case, Huon Pine rudder, Huon Pine thwarts and stern sole. Tasmania hardwood stem, knees and blue gum bow sprit and bit. Tasmanian Celery Top Pine deck beams and laid deck. Douglas Fir mast, boom and gaff. Full canvass covers. Three sails. 48 Volt marinised electric motor and Sonnenchein 230 Amp hour lead acid gel batteries. 48 Volt solar array and solar regulator for motor charging while on mooring. 48 Volt 25 Amp battery charger for use with shore power or generator. 12 Volt bilge pump and 12V battery with 12 V solar panel.

ROYAL is currently on the slip at Port Cygnet and can be inspected by arrangement.
The sum of $20,000 ONO is being asked for ROYAL.

โ€œThe Best Boat for the worst of weather.
Perhaps after all the best thing about the Eric is the degree to which she is what William Atkin thought a boat should be: a safe and comfortable home, a reliable servant, and a work of art which all who see her seem to love.โ€ - Daniel McNaughton.

RENENE was built in 1955 for Paul Parry and Peter Murray with the construction supervised by Hugh Dell of Hobart, to the 1925 โ€˜Ericโ€™ design by William Atkin.
RENENE was transported by road to be launched at Constitution Dock.
Built tough from 1.5 inch Huon Pine planking as a world cruiser and a competitor in the famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
Entering the race in 1956, it was indeed fortunate that RENENEโ€™S owners chose a William Atkin design for their new boat, RENENE and her crew were lost for 5 days after a severe storm with gale force winds and forty-foot waves devastated the fleet!
A three-day aerial search found no trace of RENENE but miraculously days after the last boat finished the race, RENENE sailed into Constitution Dock virtually unscathed to take the wooden spoon.

RENENE has only changed hands twice in her lifetime, a testament to her enduring qualities!
Jock Muir with a young 14-year-old John Muir aboard delivered RENENE to Williamstown in 1957 to be sold.
Charles ( Bud) Bacon purchased her and took her back to Sandringham Yacht Club where she resides today.
Since that day in 1957, she has been in the care of the Bacon family, a mere 67 years.
Her ownership by the Bacon Family has seen an impressive race record with 10 Melbourne to Devonport races under her belt.Under the Stewardship of Skipper Kent Bacon (1996) RENENE has also been a keen competitor in the Classic Yacht Association Summer/ Winter series for many years and SYC club races.

RENENE has always been maintained to the highest standard!
In 1997 all the original chain plates and mast fittings were renewed in stainless steel.
In 2004 new mast and standing rigging was added.
In 2009 the mast was again replaced after a unfortunate collision while racing in Hobsons Bay.
In 2013, RENENE was taken to Williamstown and placed into the shed of Master Shipwright Ferdie Darley where the deck was removed and replaced with marine plywood then dynel sheathed. (Dynel cloth with apoxy resin) A new teak deck was then overlaid over the dynel, creating water proof and now beautiful new deck!
A new bumkin and rudder cheek plates were added in 2023.
The Perkins 4108 was removed and rebuilt in 2014.

RENENE passed a 2023 insurance survey with flying colours, which is available apon request!

RENENEโ€™S measurements are :
32 ft LOD 42ft LOA with a beam of 11 feet and a draft of 5ft 6 inches.

The sum of $35,000 ono is being asked for the custodianship of RENENE.
RENENE is currently moored at Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne and can be viewed by appointment.
RENENE is ready to cross Bass Strait again and return to her birthplace if required!

Sold!

This sweet little boat is perfect for a day on the river or an overnight fishing trip.
There is a dedicated fridge locker in the stern for your catch of the day or enough food for that weekend away!
ARCADIA has been well maintained since her rebuilt and has recently been slipped and antifouled in April 2024.
ARCADIA is currently moored in Port Cygnet Tasmania and her mooring is available for rent or purchase if required.
The sum of $6000.00 ono is being asked for the ownership of ARCADIA II and interested parties can contact,
