🌿 Bowman Park News 🌿

A sincere thank you to Port Pirie Regional Council for repairing the sunken ground around the newly installed sewerage system and creating smooth walking areas around our barbecue and toilet facilities.

Completed before ‘A Brush with Art’, these improvements helped create a more welcoming space for the 400-plus visitors who attended the exhibition. We also appreciate Council’s support through a Community Assistance Grant, which covered the function centre hire fees.

🌳 Celebrating 100 days of Bush Kindy!

For ten years, Crystal Brook Kindergarten children have enjoyed Bush Kindy at Bowman Park each fortnight during Terms 2 and 3. On 17th September, they celebrated their 100th Bush Kindy day with planting a native shrub in the playground - a special milestone in their connection with this beautiful place.

As the weather warms, please be mindful that snakes may be present in the park. Work has been undertaken to minimise weeds in the garden and along the bike track, but we encourage visitors to remain alert while walking and exploring.

🎨 Another successful ‘A Brush with Art’ at Bowman Park!

From 4–20th September, Bowman Park showcased the creativity of local artists as part of the annual Flinders Ranges ‘A Brush with Art’ trail.

Our opening night brought together more than 50 people to enjoy local w**e, delicious food prepared and served by our committee, and surprise entertainment from the Caltowie Harmony Chorus. 🎶🍷

We also welcomed the Crystal Brook Guides, who explored the artworks, shared their observations and put their detective skills to the test with a mystery photo challenge! 🔍

Bowman Park was one of 17 venues along this year’s trail, connecting communities from Crystal Brook to Blinman and the near Outback through exhibitions, workshops and activities.

A sincere thank you to our artists, committee members, volunteers, performers and visitors. From preparing display boards to serving food and welcoming guests each day, your contributions helped make this exhibition a success. 💛

Entry forms are available from the Port Pirie Regional Council Office in Crystal Brook and can be returned via email or post using the details on the poster.

🛠️ Bowman Park Working Bees – July 2026 🌿

We’re holding two working bees to help maintain and improve our beautiful park, and we’d love your support!

📅 Friday 24th July • 10-12pm
📅 Sunday 26th July • 10-12pm

There are plenty of jobs to tackle, including:
• Removing a dead tree at the entrance ramp.
• Weeding and planting around the office gardens.
• Transporting building stones to the BBQ area.
• Removing willow suckers and invasive tree saplings.
• Securing sections of the ruin wall and rock wall.
• General maintenance, including cleaning gutters, trimming shrubs, repairing fencing, and oiling park seating.
• Levelling the crusher dust pile and relocating the BBQ rubbish bin pole.

Whether you can lend a hand for the full two hours or just part of the morning, every contribution makes a real difference. Together we can keep Bowman Park looking its best for everyone to enjoy.

What a wonderful boost to our community has been the formation of Greenaces. They symbolise everything good that comes through caring for your community and a preparedness to volunteer and help in anyway possible.

The BPMC would like to extend our gratitude for the assistance they have provided recently. Work was done at the base of the footbridge to remove a nasty trip hazard and this will extend to forming up the paths that lead to the bridge. After extreme hot and windy conditions, the garden paths carried a large burden of bark and leave matter. Greenacres assisted this week to rake up and clear the paths for visitors. This has made an immense difference and reinstates some pride in our gardens after very trying weather.

Our committee truly values our association with the Greenacres team and look forward to continued cooperation.
