Paul got in touch with us to sort his VG, as it had been running rough and proving unreliable, along with needing a number of other repairs. He wanted the car gone through properly and done right.
We were given a list of items to check over, so we started with a full health check including a compression test. Once that was confirmed, we wired the thermo fan to be ECU controlled and fitted a new thermostat, as one hadn’t been installed previously.
From there we checked over the exhaust and repaired a few leaks, adjusted the kickdown cable to ensure the new transmission shifted correctly, and noticed the coil lead had the incorrect end fitted, which was replaced with the correct unit. We also welded a transmission temperature sensor into the pan so Paul can now monitor trans temps.
With the engine recently rebuilt and fitted with some minor upgrades and to future proof his plans we upgraded the fuel pump and injectors.
Once all repairs and upgrades were completed, we moved on to tuning. The final result was 180rwkW and 429Nm. Interestingly, after noticing something wasn’t quite right, we removed the air filter. While this didn’t change the fueling, it picked up an additional 16kW and 12Nm.
To say Paul is happy with the end result is an understatement.
He’s already in discussions with us about further upgrades, and we’re looking forward to having the car back again in the future.
All work was carried out using the factory Delco ECU.
