🔥 NEXT GENERATION TRAINERS 🔥

Some trainers take years to find the big stage. Kayla Cottrell got there at 18! 🚀

From just down the road in Pearcedale, Kayla grew up around the dogs, and now she’s one of the most exciting trainers in Victoria. 🌟

🏆 2021: Fernando Cazz wins the Group 1 Rookie Rebel, making Kayla the YOUNGEST Group 1-winning trainer in Victoria’s history! She followed it up by finishing second in a Group 1 Cup final at Wentworth Park, beaten just a head!

And she’s never looked back... 💪

👑 Devine Empress: New Sensation champion in 2022, after making the 2021 Laurels final
💥 Fernando Duke: Group 2 McKenna Memorial winner in 2025, leading all the way at $19!
✨ He’s Magic: Rookie Rebel finalist in 2026, and second in the 2025 Sir John Dillon Memorial
💙 Dear Carla Lou: 2026 Sportsbet Ballarat Cup finalist, and a dog with a heart of gold whose prize money goes to cancer fundraising
🥈 Dashing Slay: a gallant second in the 2025 Sportsbet Melbourne Cup!
🔥 Flaming Smooth: kicked off the recent Million Dollar Chase series with a slick 29.47 qualifier win at Wentworth Park, then took his place in the semi-finals!

📊 And she’s busy! Over the last 12 months: 332 starts, 96 wins, 55 seconds and 57 thirds! 🔥

Still only 24, Kayla’s already got a career most trainers would be proud of, and she’s just getting warmed up! 🙌

Kayla, we can’t wait to see your team flying around the new Cranbourne! 🏁

Never been to the dogs? Oh, you are in for the BEST 30 seconds of your life 🐾🔥

A greyhound race is done and dusted in around 20 to 30 seconds, and trust us, your heart will be racing the whole time.

Welcome to Greyhounds 101, our new series for anyone who has ever wondered what actually happens at the dogs.

Here's the quick version:
🏁 Up to 8 greyhounds line up in numbered starting boxes
🎯 The lure zooms past, the boxes fly open and they're off
🐾 Before every race the dogs parade on the way to the boxes, allowing for the opportunity to view the dogs and pick your favourite.
📸 First nose over the line wins, and yes, photo finishes happen

Over the next few weeks we're covering speed, rug colours, the form guide, all the lingo, and the life of a racing greyhound from pup to couch potato.

Save this, send it to the mate you're dragging along to the reopening, and drop your burning greyhound questions below 👇 We might just answer them in the series.

🔥 NEXT GENERATION TRAINERS 🔥

If you've followed our Legends of Cranbourne series, you'll know the Greenough name. Kel and Jackie are greyhound racing royalty. Now meet the next Greenough taking the sport by storm: their grandson, Brad! 🌟

Just 26 and already one of the sharpest young trainers in the state, Brad is proof that talent runs in the family. 🙌

💥 2024 was the year it all clicked. Young gun Epitomize won the Great Chase, unbeaten in his first five starts, then booked a spot in the Melbourne Cup final!

🏆 Then came the big one: GROUP 1 SILVER CHIEF CHAMPION! Epitomize flew out of box 8 and led all the way in 29.75 at The Meadows. Brad's first Group 1, and what a way to do it!

And how about this for a family story... 💙

Mile A Minute won the 2024 Healesville Cup in Grandmother Jackie's care, then kept flying for Brad. 🚀 Back-to-back National Straight Track Champion, and only half a length off a second straight Healesville Cup in 2025!

📊 The numbers don't lie either:
⭐ 2025 Victorian Provincial Trainers Strike Rate Award winner: 39 wins from 79 starters, a massive 49.4%!
🔥 Last 12 months: 85 starts, 34 wins, 7 seconds and 12 thirds!

From one generation to the next, the Greenough legacy is in very good hands. 👏

Brad, we can't wait to see you lining them up at the new Cranbourne! 🏁

Over the coming weeks, we're shining the spotlight on the young local trainers already making waves, the ones who'll be chasing big wins on our new track for years to come. 🙌

First up, a trainer who's barely been out of the headlines...

Talk about a rise! 🚀 Meet Jess Hopkins, just down the road in Junction Village and one of the most exciting young trainers in the country right now!

Jess splits her days between the gallops and the greyhounds, and wow, has she made her mark.

💪 2021 & 2022: Panama Canal impressed from the beginning of his career with 12 consecutive race wins, a Healsville Cup finailst, winning the Road to The Diamond Final at Healsville and placing third in the Pink Diamond Final at Ballarat. This dog by Superior Panama x Zipping Yoko had an astonishing 23 wins from a 39 start career with a winning strike rate of 59%.

🌙 2023: Alfie Moon wins The Fireball and The Lizrene, two Group 3s in one year!

💪 2024: Canya All Class storms home in the Group 1 Topgun Stayers. First Group 1, tick! He also ran third in the Bold Trease and smashed the track record in the Sale Cup heats on his way to the final.

And then along came Canya Mayhem... 💙

🏆 2025 SPORTSBET MELBOURNE CUP CHAMPION! Leading all the way in 29.15 at Sandown Park, at just his 19th start! Jess became only the tenth female trainer EVER to win it, living out a dream she's had since she was a kid.

🏆 Group 1 Gold Bullion winner in Queensland, stopping the clock in 29.54 and becoming the first dog ever to snag the Melbourne Cup and Gold Bullion double
💰 Over $1 million in prize money
⭐ 2026 Victorian Sprinter of the Year

That's the kind of story that gets us fired up about the future of our sport! 🙌

Everyone’s showing themselves in the 80s… so we thought we’d show you Cranbourne in the 80s 😎🐾

Picture this… it’s Saturday night.

The betting ring is buzzing, the grandstand is packed, the bookies are calling and Cranbourne Greyhounds is the place to be.

There were dinner dances upstairs, huge Cup nights, celebrity guests and even cars up for grabs 🚗

In 1981, cricket legends Doug Walters and Bill Lawry arrived for Cranbourne Cup night by helicopter 🚁

Tony Barber even had a greyhound connected to the club called Tale of the Century, after Sale of the Century was apparently a little too close to home 😂

Then there was National Star, winning the Cranbourne Cup in both 1984 and 1985, a feat no other greyhound has matched.

Big crowds. Big personalities. Very big 80s energy.

Safe to say, Cranbourne knew how to do a Saturday night ❤️

Who remembers it?

Drop your favourite Cranbourne memory from the 80s below 👇

You could say we are making tracks. 😉👀
