BODjA Design Chair making Workshops. Reject the factory: Reject the truck: Reject the store. Workshop is located at our Studio and the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

Making Chairs from salvaged timber with connection to people, place, and time, using heritage hand tools, in the tradition of Jimmy Possum, a Northern Tasmanian chair maker in the late 1800s. Mike Epworth of BODjA DESiGN takes clients on a 2 Day chair making workshop, where participants are shown the skills required to make a chair in the JIMMY POSSUM revivalist tradition. BODjA Chairs are made from reclaimed timbers with connection (memories and meaning) to the participant. Roving workshops can be set up by rivers, under tree or in historic buildings, depending on the seasons. Clients are guaranteed to take home a chair made by themselves to pass down through the generation.

Mike and I are excited to be partnering with the Sunshine Coast Council to present ‘Local Ground’ an exhibition at Bankfoot House Museum. A fascinating look at the history of vernacular furniture in the Glasshouse Mountains area.

Local Ground is an exhibition that brings together history, making and contemporary practice through a dialogue between nineteenth-century furniture maker William Andrew Grigor and contemporary chairmaker, researcher and author Dr Michael Epworth 😊
