Zeekr 7X Audio Upgrade!
When John reached out to upgrade the audio system in his Zeekr 7X, we were a little intrigued but apprehensive at first, since we would be one of the FIRST in Australia to do such an upgrade.... but we were determined to find out what was possible.
After listening to the factory sound system, we agreed that the stock audio was lacking detail, resolution, and had very little emotive presence. Yes it has nice surround effects, but the true emotive feeling of the music was lost through so much processing and augmentation..... leaving you feeling a bit “meh”.
After some research and talking to our industry colleagues, we soon worked out that we COULD upgrade the audio and deliver a significantly improved audio experience - utilising a GOLDHORN DSP amplifier.
Thanks to the way the Goldhorn can integrate with the Zeekr, features like Active noise cancellation, voice control, factory microphones, and all the various vehicle bongs, chimes etc can all be retained in full.
So we dived in, head first, and set about the goal of delivering a much more immersive audio system:
* The front speakers were upgraded with a set of Morel Virtus 63.4. These are a simply superb sounding, 3-way separate component speaker set with 6.5” woofer, 2.5” midrange and 1” soft dome tweeter. We designed and made some custom 3D printed speaker mounts so these fitted like factory, and re-jigged the factory wiring so these could be run fully active.
* The factory subwoofer, like so many OEM systems, was very monotone and lacking musicality.... so that was upgraded to a Focal Flax 8” slim sub, fitted into the OEM sub enclosure (along with a solid amount of sound deadening!).
* All four doors were carefully sound deadened & insulated with Morel MAT-227, STP Aeroflex, STP Biplast and of course our in-house speaker baffles and foam sealing rings.... making sure not to add too much weight to affect the electric door opening mechanisms.
* Then a Goldhorn AB218 20ch DSP amplifier was installed to take care of whole system. This DSP amp communicates on the vehicle’s A2B network (automotive audio bus) to pick up audio before the factory amplifier. This was fitted with a vehicle specific plug & play harnesses so there is ZERO cutting into factory wiring, and fits snugly under the boot floor.
Now the audio system has definition, clarity, immersiveness and real emotion to the music.
We’ve given a couple of DSP tunes to select from as a well:
– A true “driver focused” pure music tune, where we’ve stripped back the excess processing and surround effects to give a more true, stereophonic sound
- An “OEM+” tune, where we’ve kept a lot of the surround, overhead and headrest speakers to give a more spatial, surround effect that is pleasant to all occupant positions in the car
- And a High Definition Bluetooth tune, where the Zeekr audio system is bypassed completely and audio is fed DIRECTLY into the Goldhorn DSP in high resolution (aptX HD Bluetooth 5.0), giving the utmost in clarity, definition and audio resolution.
The end result – absolutely worth it.
Honestly one of the most challenging systems to tune, but the end result is a totally different sound system that is true to the music, and delivers what a premium sound system SHOULD do.
