On the 8th of May, another roadside worker lost their life.
I held off posting while information was confirmed, but there’s something that needs to be said.
We are human.
We have families waiting for us.
We are loved by people who expect us to come home.
A young tow truck operator was killed on Forrest Highway in Myalup after allegedly being hit by a drunk driver while simply doing his job on the side of the road.
Slow the f**k down.
The SLOMO laws are there for a reason. Slowing down has never killed anyone — not slowing down has.
And before anyone asks, no, I won’t be naming the company involved. Because when you strip away the uniforms, logos, flashing lights and job titles, we are all the same.
Tow truck operators.
Traffic controllers.
Breakdown crews.
Main Roads workers.
Volunteers.
Emergency services.
Real people standing roadside, just trying to do their jobs and get home safely at the end of the day.
Every cone you pass.
Every flashing amber light.
Every tow truck, police car, work ute or emergency vehicle parked roadside has a person standing nearby.
Someone’s child.
Someone’s partner.
Someone’s parent.
Someone’s whole world.
Please slow down.
Please move over.
Please pay attention.
Because this time, someone didn’t make it home.
