🔧 Workshop Wednesday – Week 10
What Tyre Pressure Should I Run?

It’s one of the simplest things you can check on your vehicle—but it’s also one of the most misunderstood.

The correct tyre pressure is not necessarily the number written on the tyre sidewall.

That sidewall figure usually refers to the tyre’s maximum rated pressure—not the recommended pressure for your vehicle.

So where do you find the right number?
👉 Check your vehicle’s tyre placard.

It’s commonly found:
🚗 Inside the driver’s door or door frame
⛽ Inside the fuel flap on some vehicles
📖 In your owner’s manual

The recommended pressure can also vary depending on:
🧳 How heavily the vehicle is loaded
🚙 Whether you’re towing
🛞 Front and rear tyre requirements
🏕️ The type of driving you’re doing

Running the wrong tyre pressure can lead to:
❌ Uneven tyre wear
❌ Poor handling
❌ Reduced tyre life
❌ Increased fuel consumption

As a general habit, check your tyre pressures regularly and always check them when the tyres are cold for the most accurate reading.

And don’t forget the spare!

At Cannonvale Tyrepower, we’re always happy to check your tyre pressures and help you understand what’s right for your vehicle.

❓ Ask the Experts
Do you know where the tyre placard is located on your vehicle?
Or is there something you’ve always wanted to know about tyres, wheel alignments, wheel balancing or puncture repairs?

🕳️ POTHOLE: 1 — WHEEL & TYRE: 0 😬

This one rolled into Cannonvale Tyrepower today after an unfortunate encounter with a pothole… and the photos pretty much say it all!

💥 Bent steel rim
💥 Tyre sidewall destroyed
💥 Definitely not driving any further!

Potholes can do a lot more damage than simply give you a nasty jolt. A hard hit can damage the tyre sidewall, bend or crack a rim and can sometimes knock your wheel alignment out as well.

If you hit a decent pothole, keep an eye out for:

⚠️a new vibration or wobble
⚠️the vehicle pulling to one side
⚠️steering suddenly feeling different
⚠️a bulge, cut or split in the tyre
⚠️loss of tyre pressure

And if you’re unsure, bring it in and let us take a look. A quick check is much better than finding out the hard way that something was damaged.

Seen any potholes around the Whitsundays lately that deserve their own postcode? 😂🕳️

🔧 Workshop Wednesday – Week 9
Can I Replace Just One Tyre?

Sometimes, yes—but it depends.

If one tyre is damaged beyond repair, replacing just that tyre may be possible, but there are a few things we need to consider first:
🛞 Tread depth – If the other tyres are significantly worn, fitting one brand-new tyre can create a noticeable difference in grip and handling.
🚗 Tyre size and type – The replacement tyre needs to match the correct size, load rating and speed rating for your vehicle.
⚙️ Vehicle type – Some AWD and 4WD vehicles can be more sensitive to differences in tyre circumference, so matching tread depth can be especially important.
🔄 Axle matching – In many cases, replacing tyres in pairs may be the safer option so both tyres on the same axle have similar grip and wear.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

At Cannonvale Tyrepower, we’ll check the condition of your remaining tyres and explain whether replacing one tyre, two tyres—or more—is the safest and most economical option for your vehicle.

❓ Ask the Experts
Have you ever had one tyre damaged and wondered whether you needed to replace the others as well?

Or is there something you’ve always wanted to know about tyres, wheel alignments, wheel balancing or puncture repairs?

Leave your question in the comments—it could feature in a future Workshop Wednesday!

PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

This year, it’s personal.
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month 💙

This year, the message is especially close to home for us at Cannonvale Tyrepower.

Last year, Kevin was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Like so many Australian families, we suddenly found ourselves facing the uncertainty, emotions and challenges that come with those words.

It’s a powerful reminder of just how important awareness, early detection, support and ongoing research really are.

Prostate cancer affects thousands of Australian men and has touched the lives of many within the Tyrepower family — store owners, staff, customers, partners and loved ones.

That’s why we’re proud that has been a Major Partner of Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia ( ) since 2015, helping raise vital funds and awareness for a cause that now means even more to us personally.

PCFA works to reduce the impact of prostate cancer by funding research, raising awareness, advocating for Australian men, and providing support, information and specialist prostate cancer nurses to men and their families.

This September, we encourage the men in our community to look after themselves, know their risk, have the conversations that can sometimes be difficult, and speak with their doctor about prostate cancer.

And to the partners, families and friends beside them — your support matters too.

For us, this isn’t just an awareness campaign. It’s personal. 💙

Together, we can help more men get the information, support and care they need.

🚗 How do I know when my tyres are worn out?

A tread depth gauge is the easiest way to check. Simply place the gauge into the main grooves of your tyre tread and take a reading.

Low tread can reduce grip, increase stopping distance and make driving in wet conditions more dangerous. Also check for uneven wear, cracks, bulges or visible tread wear indicators.

Not sure what you’re looking at? Drop into Cannonvale Tyrepower and our friendly team can check your tyres for you.

🔧 Workshop Wednesday
What Do Those Numbers on Your Tyre Actually Mean?

Ever looked at the side of your tyre and wondered what all those numbers and letters mean?

Take this tyre for example:

215/60R17 96H

It might look like a random code, but every number and letter tells a story about your tyre.

Here's what it means:
🛞 215 – The tyre's width in millimetres.
📏 60 – The aspect ratio. The sidewall height is 60% of the tyre's width.
⚙️ R – Radial construction (used on almost all modern passenger vehicles).
⭕ 17 – The wheel (rim) diameter in inches.
💪 96 – The load index. This indicates how much weight each tyre is designed to carry.
🏁 H – The speed rating. This is the maximum speed the tyre is designed to handle when correctly inflated and loaded.

But there's more information hidden on your tyre sidewall, including:

• Vehicle tyre type (Passenger or Light Truck)
• Maximum tyre pressure (PSI)
• DOT safety markings
• Manufacturing information

Knowing your tyre size makes replacing your tyres much easier and helps ensure you choose the right tyre for your vehicle and the way you drive.

Whether you're commuting every day, towing a caravan, heading off-road or simply driving around the Whitsundays, choosing the correct tyre is important for safety, performance and tyre life.

If you're ever unsure what the numbers on your tyres mean, drop into Cannonvale Tyrepower. We'll happily explain them and help you find the right tyre for your vehicle.

“You wouldn’t believe what we’ve pulled out of tyres at Cannonvale Tyrepower…”

Things that belong in a tyre: Air.
Things that don’t: Pretty much everything in this photo. 😂

This little collection has all been pulled from punctured tyres recently.

Some are obvious. Others make you wonder, “How on earth did that get in there?”

A small piece of debris can quickly turn into a flat tyre, so if you notice a slow leak, your tyre pressure dropping, or something stuck in the tread, it’s worth getting it checked before it becomes a bigger problem.

Got a slow leak or suspicious-looking object in your tyre? Get it checked before it leaves you stuck.

Come in and see the team at Cannonvale Tyrepower and we'll get that leak fixed in no time.

🪜🌳 KEV’S TAKING AN UNPLANNED PIT STOP! 🛞

It turns out “ladder + chainsaw + tree limb” wasn’t quite the winning combination Kevin had in mind. 😬🌳

The good news is Kev is on the mend and recovering well. In the meantime, we’re running a little short-staffed, with the rest of the Cannonvale Tyrepower crew powered by teamwork, caffeine and a highly questionable amount of optimism. ☕😂

Please bear with us if we can’t answer the phone straight away. Give us another try, leave a message where possible, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

A huge thank you for your patience, understanding and all the well wishes sent Kev’s recuperating. We really appreciate the support from our wonderful community.

And yes… Kevin is officially banned from ladders and chainsaws. 🪚🪜
