Had that awkward situation in a car park when you and another car have both started reversing at the same time and you're both behind each other? Easiest way to solve this is not to sit there and both awkwardly wait for each other to make next move. Simply just take your car out of reverse gear so your reverse light isn't on anymore and you'll find they will just leaving then you can simply leave afterwards.

DRIVING TIP/QUOTE:
Tailgating!

People don't realize sometimes how quick a situation can change in front of them, I myself now have had a few people nearly rear end me because a kangaroo has jumped out in front of my car in say a 80-100km zone and ill instinctively brake relatively hard, however the car behind with their 0.5-1.0sec gap nearly ends up in my boot (trunk for the Americans :) ) I have extremely good tires and brakes on all my vehicles so the person behind (if tailgating) may not be able to pull up as quick as me. Law in Australia is to have a 3 second gap and +1 second if the car in front is towing etc

Be aware of your gap between you and the car in front people, its best not to have a accident

In all honesty, I would rather you hit me from behind rather than me hit a child or kangaroo as that way your insurance has to cover it not mine. *mike drop*

P.S. If you tailgate someone they usually start slowing down because you have upset them, so really your making your trip take longer and just getting yourself frustrated.

DRIVING TIP/QUOTE:
So, Judging when you can pull out in front of an oncoming car in the distance is something a lot of Learner Drivers ( some full licensed too -_- ) need to get used to Judging.

It all comes down to a few key points of information:

1. What Speed zone is that other car in (are they speeding?)

2. How confident you are in moving of (especially manual) and how reasonably quick (not too fast) can you bring up your speed (to or close to the limit) as you pull out whilst keeping 100% control of the car

3. The capability of your car's power.

An ideal way to practice this "distance" is to have a situation come along where there is only 1 car coming that you have to wait for let them pass then pull out (safely) in behind that car when you yourself reach that zones speed limit that distance now from the front of your car and the rear of their car (plus about 20% more) gives you an idea of the rough gap you require when pulling out in-front of another car.

Now this isn't fool proof as the are many different speed zones and some cars might or might not be speeding, this is ONLY a rough idea to help judge distance.

The more you drive over time you will get used to observing an oncoming cars speed and you will know if you will have time to pull out in front or wait.

DRIVING TIP/QUOTE:
Question I get asked often is "How much can you go over the limit before I would get a speeding fine?"

A lot of people think that it's maybe 5% or 10% of the speed limit or even 5km/hr or 10km/hr over is acceptable.

Well I'd hate to break it to you there is no real tolerance. You can be booked for being 1 km/hr over the limit. However it is really up to the police officer observing you, to them 5km/hr over might be fine and it might not be. Might depend on road conditions and areas as well.
6km/hr over on a highway may be ignored, but then 6km in a 40km/hr school zone definitely wont not be.

There you have it. Question answered :)

DRIVING TIP/QUOTE:
Tinted windows can help reduce glare and also help reduce the risk of skin cancer as well as keep a lot of heat out in the summer period. it also gives you a bit more privacy when driving around and makes it hard for those looky loo's peeping in your window at night ;P

P.S. Jus Driving School car now has tinted windows. :D

DRIVING TIP/QUOTE:

Be wary of kangaroo's on the roads, remember if one jumps out in front there is a very good chance that another may be following that one, so if you see a roo jump out and go straight across still keep slowing down then go slow until you have passed that area.

DRIVING TIP/QUOTE:

Getting closer to those P's?? A good little thing you can practice while still on your L's is adjusting certain instruments (not musical -_- ) while driving. For Example the radio and air-conditioning system & fiddling with the washers and wipers.

These are things you will use while driving around so its good practice to be able to do these without looking at the knobs/switches etc.

If you must look that's ok but pick your timing, don't look when in heavy traffic or when behind another car or on a windy road etc.

DRIVING TIP/QUOTE:

There are two ways to check if your tires are getting bald.

1. Most tires these days have a little hard bit of rubber in between the tire tread. If your tire is starting to get level or is level with that "tread indicator" you need to change your tires for new ones.

2. Old school method to check your tires was to place a match stick head in between the tread then look level at the tire. if the match stick head stuck up higher than the tire tread you should look at replacing them.

NOTE: If you hear a constant thumping noise coming from one of your tires while you are diving around you may have what they call an "egg" in your tire. Potholes and the like can cause these even on new tires. If you don't replace/repair that tire the "egg" can explode giving you a flat tire. (very dangerous on highways)
