AMAZING FIELD ASSEMBLES FOR EPIC AUSTRALIAN TITLE NEXT WEEK!

The Perth Motorplex has released a fantastic artwork that features the entries for next week's 2026 Burson Auto Parts AWSR Australian Wingless Sprint Championship.

What an incredible commitment from the traveling teams in the light of the recent transport logistics inflation to enter a field of this substance and what a fantastic effort from the WA teams to support the title in their backyard!

There are State title winners galore, Aussie champions, living legends and brash newcomers all lining up for a shot at glory in one of the planet's most prestigious race venues.

There is no doubt the field is brimming with potential Championship winners and it all plays out with a massive week of practice Wednesday, Calcutta festivities Thursday and then two huge nights of title combat.

On behalf of everyone in the AWSR we cannot thank the teams enough for their commitment to the title (and the Wingless Speedweek schedule the week after).

Let's do this!

The 360-LS Sprintcars “Chase to the Titles” on 7 February has now hit 21 nominations.

Nominations close at 12pm on Monday 2 February. Drivers can nominate via the fuel online portal.

✅ Let’s hope everyone gets behind these exciting events so the 360-LS Sprintcar division gets the lime light it deserves at the New Light Media Australian Championship on 13 & 14 March. ✅

A massive shout out to Southside Mechanical & Spares Pty Ltd for jumping on board for the second year as major sponsor of Thunder in the Canefields 2025!! Not only are they sponsoring this event drawing the best drivers from all over Australia to our speedbowl, the Southside Mechanical & Spares racing team will have 6 cars amongst the action including 4 Wingless and 2 Sprintcars!! Owner of the business Richie Robb will be pulling double duties for four nights of racing in a Wingless and Sprintcar, with wife Toni Chapman in the Wingless as well.

Richie was quick to point out the attraction with the wingless class "We really like the wingless because they are affordable. They are a V6 commodore engine. Everything on a wingless is a hand me down from a sprintcar so it’s a very affordable class, and it’s a fun class, and we are looking for more drivers to take up the sport which we can help with. We are definitely looking like a 16-20 field of wingless for this years Thunder. It's really growing. Wingless are 4 seconds slower than a sprintcar but we are fun to watch with neck and neck racing. My Southside Mechanical and Spares racing team includes 4 wingless and 2 sprintcars! I am pulling double duties in a wingless and a sprintcar. My wifes in a wingless, and my step daughter is in a wingless. No pressure, but someone's got to get on the podium from our team!! We are a major sponsor to this event and had good success last year. After travelling and meeting drivers at racetracks all over Australia, this is my thank you to them, inviting them all back to my neighbourhood, they are competing on our track, and its gonna be all on. Lots of fun, we cant wait.”

Noteable big name Alan Woods returns to Cairns againto be in the second sprintcar alongside Richie which is exciting to see!! Richie has been instrumental with bringing back the Wingless class to Cairns with 4 last year and growing to an expected field of 16-20 Wingless for Thunder.
