At Innes Mechanical, we love supporting other small businesses in our region, especially when they do a bloody good job! 👏

We recently took some motorcycle fork lowers and triple clamps to Shaune at Panel Pro’s Northern Rivers for a refresh, along with colour matching them to some new fork covers we’re fitting to a motorcycle in the workshop at the moment.

A proper old-school Harley in for some much-needed attention at Innes Mechanical.

This 1995 Evolution Wide Glide, now owned by Harry, came through the workshop for a comprehensive refresh to get it running, riding and looking the way it should.

🏍️🔧 THE TIME HAS COME FOR OUR SECOND MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE COURSE! 🔧🏍️

After the fantastic response to our first course, we’re excited to announce that our second Motorcycle Maintenance Course is happening on Saturday, 28th November!

Once again, we’re keeping it small and hands-on, with only 10 spots available so everyone gets plenty of opportunity to get involved, ask questions and learn about looking after their own motorcycle.

We’ll cover a range of practical motorcycle maintenance and inspection topics — and there’ll be plenty more covered on the day!

🏍️ Bring your own motorcycle if you can! This gives us the opportunity to demonstrate and, where appropriate, help you with your own bike.

💰 $50 per person

WELL… WE DIDN’T EXPECT TO FIND THIS IN THE SHED. 👀🔥

We recently finished a quad bike rebuild for one of our customers, and as luck would have it, our families crossed paths outside the workshop too, with the kids’ birthdays landing around the same time.

A get-together, a few beers, plenty of yarns… and eventually, naturally, the conversation turned to bikes.

One thing led to another and we ended up getting a look inside his shed.

And holy sh*t… look what we found.

Sitting there was this absolute beauty — a 1948 FL, built around a 1948 Wishbone frame, with its 1948 engine and transmission, an inline Knuckle springer and a heap of seriously cool old-school character.

This isn't a bike that appeared overnight. There's a lot of time, effort, parts hunting and personal touches gone into this project.

And now we've just started helping him bring it all together.

This is one of those things we love about being a small family business.

A customer comes through the workshop for a quad rebuild… a friendship develops… the families cross paths… and before you know it, you're standing in a shed looking at a bloody 1948 Harley and talking about how we're going to get stuck into it. 😂

We're only at the beginning of our involvement with this one, but we're bloody excited to be a part of it.

Good people. Old bikes. Shed builds. That's what it's all about.

🔧 One of the best things about working for yourself…

Sometimes you can just shut the workshop a little early, put the tools down, and go enjoy a lunch together. ❤️

Owning your own business isn't always easy — there are long days, plenty of stress and always something that needs doing. But moments like this make it worth it.

We work hard so that we can also enjoy the life we're working for. 🍽️❤️

🔧 INNES MECHANICAL — DIAGNOSTICS

A scan tool doesn’t diagnose a car for you.

There seems to be a common belief that a mechanic plugs a scanner into a vehicle, gets a fault code, replaces whatever component the code mentions, clears the code and sends the car on its way.

If only it were that easy.

Think of a fault code as the vehicle telling you that it has noticed something isn't right.

It's a starting point — not a diagnosis.

A bit like going to the doctor and saying, “Doc, something hurts here.”

That tells the doctor where to start looking. It doesn't necessarily tell them why it hurts.

The same applies to vehicle diagnostics.

A code for an oxygen sensor doesn't automatically mean you need an oxygen sensor.

A code for a throttle position sensor doesn't automatically mean you need a throttle position sensor.

A code for a pressure sensor doesn't automatically mean you need a pressure sensor.

It could be the sensor.

Or it could be:

🔧 Wiring
🔧 Power supply
🔧 Earth/ground
🔧 Poor connection
🔧 Corrosion
🔧 Another component affecting the circuit
🔧 Incorrect mechanical operation
🔧 Or something completely different causing the system to report the fault.

The scan tool gives us information.

Testing gives us answers.

That's where proper diagnostics comes in.

We don't just plug the scanner in and start throwing expensive parts at the problem until something sticks.

We use the information available, follow the manufacturer's diagnostic procedures, test circuits and components, check live data and work through the system logically.

Because replacing parts until the fault disappears isn't diagnosis.

It's just fu***ng expensive guessing. 😂
