SuperClassico says farewell to its workshop in Preston.

We are honoured and proud to join Vespa House, the iconic shop in Collingwood, servi(ci)ng the Australian small wheels community from 1956.

The shop now offers a complete line of work and spare parts for all Classic Vespas, from basic service to a full Restoration/Custom build.

Been asked to make this Vespa Douglas auxiliary fuel tank work with a pourer. After some inspiration from a Scepter Jerry can, bit of grinding, welding and machining, here it is...
This little job is another example of why you should prefer us to many others. We don't just buy and throw parts together, but actually modify or even make parts from scratch.

When doing a high quality restoration, the speedometer is an aspect that really makes the difference. Due to the absence of faithful reproductions, and that includes the repackaged "Piaggio" ones, genuine speedos are still the cream of the crop. For this build, we sourced an original Veglia, 100 km/h scaled, from the mid 60s, same period this Vespa GL was made. The speedo underwent calibration checking, inspection of internals and lubrication, cleaning, resetting of odometer, new bezel, glass and rubber seal. Bezel was crimped while compressing the body against the rubber seal, and waterproofing is guaranteed by an additional thin layer of sealant that is not visible from outside. All the work is done by one person, here at Superclassico in Melbourne.

On today'd bench: Quattrini M200 for Vespa smallframe and Quattrini M1XL for Vespa largeframe, with their matching Quattrini pipes. The Vespa tuning world owes a lot to Max Quattrini and his groundbreaking kits, that we have used since the first generation of M1 came out in 2006.

Front end upgraded with BGM dampener. These are the ones we commonly fit when we're asked to improve one of the main weak points in rideability of these old scooters, without replacing the whole fork with a modern one.

Another big chunk of work done on the GL. Fork races in, front end and engine in, headset assembled, all cables and wiring loom rooted. Next is the front badge, which always need weeks of meditation to find the right Zen, before even thinking of squashing one rivet.

Original '60s Siem bulb holder, processed in our hydroblaster. The cutting edge finish of this process on plastic and soft metals is unbeatable, it really brings them back to life. This and a lot of other small details make the difference in a quality restoration, that can only increase in value over time.
