For transfers of vehicle registration, a safety certificate is necessary:
• If you are trying to sell a vehicle.
• If the car is being sold, a safety certificate needs to be visible in the window. If this is not done, there may be severe fines involved.

If Queensland Transport standards are not met by your vehicle, our assessors will provide you with a rejection report explaining the precise problems and fixes required to pass a safety inspection. You must address each issue listed on the report before scheduling a time with us to have the car re-inspected. Up to 14 days following the initial inspection, a re-inspection may be performed; however, beyond this time, the certificate will become invalid, and a new inspection will be required.

Provide your Safety Certificate, the required purchase/transfer paperwork, and the associated fee to the Queensland Department of Transport. The department of Queensland will transfer and update the transport records of ownership. Within 60 days or 2000 miles after the date you receive it, you must take your roadworthy certificate to the Department of Transportation.

Depending on who is selling the car, a safety certificate's duration may vary:

All other sellers' certificates are good for two months or two thousand kilometres from the date of issue. Licensed motor dealers' certificates are valid for three months or one thousand kilometres from the date of issue, whichever comes first.
As long as you stay within the boundaries outlined above, you can register an unregistered vehicle using the same safety certificate before transferring the registration.
Even if you sell a car within the parameters outlined above, you will require a new safety certificate each time you do so. Only one transfer may be made using a single safety certificate.

The mechanical reliability or overall condition of a vehicle are not examined by the Certificate of Inspection. An inspection certificate does not include the following:

The car's mechanical integrity is good.

The air conditioner, rear window wipers, and rear window demister are all functional non-safety extras.

The items that were examined during the roadworthy inspection will continue to operate after the inspection, although other items, such as a brake light, may cease to operate at any time after the inspection.

A roadworthy examination verifies that the car is safe for use on the road and that its essential components adhere to a set standard. It contains:

1. vehicle identification numbers, such as the VIN, chassis number, and engine number.

2. systems for steering, suspension, and brakes

3. vehicle design

4. reflectors and light

5. tyres and wheels

6. seat belts and seats

7. front and rear windows, front wipers, and front washers

8. various safety-related components on the chassis, engine, or body.

If you sell, transfer, or purchase a vehicle that does not yet have a safety certificate, you will need an RWC to complete the title transfer through the Queensland Transport Authority. If you do not have a safety certificate, the Department of Transport will not be able to permit the transfer of ownership of the vehicle and the vehicle may be deregistered. A safety certificate is also required for new vehicle registration after the registration has expired.
