Ever heard of Australia's first-ever navy ship... still resting in the Hawkesbury?

Meet HMAS Parramatta (I) — launched in 1910 as the flagship birth of the Royal Australian Navy. Built in Scotland, she steamed to Australia, served gallantly in WWI (think Mediterranean).

Post-war life took a wild turn: decommissioned, repurposed as a prison but never materialised. Then a storm broke her free — she ran aground on a mud flat near Bar point.

This heritage wreck is one of the Hawkesbury's best-kept secrets — visible from the water, eerie and fascinating.
