Hey all... i just popped into the shop today to see what's been happening while ive been away getting a new right hip fitted.

Surgery All went well & im on the road to recovery good & proper.

So, the boys (Archie Robbo & Gory) & Marly have all been looking after the shop while ive been off work & theyve been doing an excellent job,,, thank you so much guys xoxoxoxo

& theyve also been getting the Monaco fastback mini prepped & ready for its Dept of Transport Stress-Testing.

This is pretty involved job setting-up all this stuff plus pretty involved series of tests to see how far the body twists with certain amounts of weights applied upon the corners & the seats ... simulating people sitting in the car... all designed to literally measure thru a series of guages (dial-indicators) to see how far the body moves/twists , & where, & how far it swings back etc.

So Dave we shall know this Tuesday.

If it fails then we will need to brace-up the body some more... & test it all again...

However , if it passes then its off for final paint , upholstery & bright work & get it onto the dyno for a good hard tune.

I should be back at work full-time in a week or 2 ,,, but ill certainly be here this tuesday to see this test happen.

Rightyo... we are officially booked-in to Race at Leyburn Street a sprints 30th Anniversary meeting.

Past scrutneering all good,,, got all the race-number stickers on the car (thanks heaps Brad Sinclair , legend sticker fitter)

We are All ready to rumble
😍πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

We can now chill-out for the rest of the day,,, probly go for a trundle around looking at heaps n heaps of awesome race-cars & say hello to all our racing family & friends.

Racing starts tomorow morning after a Drivers briefing, , , we are car #242 if youre watching on the internet thingy... so we are right down the end of the field (as usual)

Im not to confident with the car &/or the tyres but we shall see what its like first run tomorow morning.

I would like to see a 45sec ish run if I can at some time during the weekend,,, but that all depends on how reliable the car is,,, how sticky the tyres are,,, & whether i can hang onto it with 210hp... that's quite a bit more than we have ever had so it should be fun
😍πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°

Lots of crossing fingers here.

But hey,,, we are out here having fun & thats all that counts ey???...

Massive thank you & even more massive "I Love You" Marlene Daniells

😍πŸ₯°πŸ˜

Thanks sooooo much to Joel Lobley racing for all your time & efforts , we had a big chunk of s**t to deal with,,, mate love you long-time bruva xoxoxoxo

The motor is showing signs of sadness but this weekend at Leyburn ill just take it easy for the first coupla runs to feel-out the new front tyres.

Then im just gonna give it the willy's at lunchtime & see if i can pull a good run out of my arse.

If it goes "Pop" then so be it.

I won't be racing again till next year so plenty of time to swap motors... i have heaps of them

Happy 12th bday ReadSpead 2.0..Hi everyone.. just a little appreciation post..
12years ago today we officially reopened ReadSpeed Mini Mecca. We've had a huge 12 years and been through some amazing highs and lows, including floods, health problems, racing, product development, births, deaths and marriages.
We are so proud of our team, Les Daly , Archie, and Robbo Rob Dyba , who have supported us and worked hard to help keep us going.
Thanks also to all our customers and friends who come to us to keep their minis etc up and running, and who have the time to listen to the boss explain to help them or when he tells his stories.
We hope to keep seeing you all in the future..
All My Other Cars Are Minis Too.

Oky doky

Michael's 1275 cyl head is "almost done".

Just a "little" tidy-up to do,,, punch-in some guides, clearance them for the valve stems,,, trim some lovely 3x angle seats & then add good surface skim.

We will measure all the volumes (CC Them all to make sure theyre even)

& start assembling with new seals & springs etc.

The boys now have 7x heads to assemble & fit while im away & 6x flywheel/clutch packs to sort for various motors we have built recently ... so theyll be very busy while im away, along with all the Book-ins coming in over the next few weeks.

So its all happening (as usual) busy little bees were are here at ReadSpeed.

& im actually catching-with with all the cyl Heads the boys have been waiting for, for lots n lots of power-units being built here.

Thanks everyone for your patience with us,,, there is only a few of us working here & only so many hours in the day,,, & thats why im here working on my weekends & night tomes during the week to get intop of the work-load.

So if there is anyone who be-grudges the cost of what we do here, -> or the time it takes,,, then please just go away & dont come back.

We have had our fair share of winging Sooks, abusing us for the time we take over the years & I know nearly every single workshop gets their fair share too... so its not just us.

There are a few mini shops down south ive heard have been taking more than 3x years, quite commonly, to build jist a normal hot-road or race mini engine & we have similar issues waiting for parts & machining that are out of our control "sometimes"... But then we end up with a whole row of power-units that are finished & running & we need to squeeze them into the cue to fit them "because;" we cant "Book them in" because we dont knkw their finish tkmes until it happens,,, so that in itself slows us down trying to fit engines into cars & tune them when we are totally booked-out with normal work.

We really dont need to be flooded but here we are with 4x floods in the last 9x years which stuffs us right up (time-wise & financially too)

So we will be putting all our prices up from this Christmas onwards & if you dont like it then just dont bring your work here,,, go find someone who will do it cheaper for you please?

We won't compromise our workmanship for the sake of you crying time-poor or money-poor ok?

We will also continue to prioritise people who "Need their mini" running as their daily driver,,, so we will keep helping anyone who is broken-down (as we always have)
[[[To a point]]]

But if you want a full race turbo injected twin cam motor then im sorry you'll have to wait & book it in at the end of next year & wait another couple of years for it to be finished.

Theyre just a side-line for us & we certainly don't make any money on them.
Its all simply for the love of it & the smile on your dial. So just wait or dont book it in here ok?

Cheers.
Ill finish this head off tomorow arvo after the dyno session with the race-buggy & get it down to the machine shop & pick-up the other 2x that are sitting there.

Yee haa
Keep on keeping on people
Stay tuned

Hey Steve... your Nomad rear subframe (as you've seen) is quite rotten with rust... both trailing arms are flogging around so theyre rooted... not sure we can save them.

So we have done you another good condition frame, all been Garnett-blasted , etch-primed & 2pak painted,,, fitted with all new fully adjustable stuff (hi-los & rear-arm brackets etc)
New donuts
New wheel bearings, new brakes, brake-hoses, subframe mounts, new shockys etc etc etc.
All new brake pipes etc

The front subframe got the very same treatment... we didnt really want to take the front frame out but it really needed it & we were just not prepared to do a half-job.

Peddle-assy was all rotten with rust... literally was barely attached... the steering column was all floppy & bushes top & bottom are stuffed.

So we are doing quite a bit more than we first thought,,, but as we tell everyone, (with nearly every single job these days) we can only see what we can see until its all pulled down & """ we always find more"""
We have opened the proverbial "Can of Worms" as usual.

Anyways,,, we are on the way back together now so past the half-way mark.

Ill talk with you again next week mate.
Cheers

Its lunchtime now.... but no lunch for us... had a huge brekky earlier so we will keep plugging away.

Leaps n bounds now

Still lots to do & we are into the slow-going fiddly bits.

These mini heads are small & tight to get into, so gotta go slow, take your time, dont be too greedy... dont be in too much if a rush or you can wreck things.

Heaps of big dags n huge lips & edges & lines everywhere. (As usual)

Its all happening though.

Once im done here i can drop it down to the machine shop for some lovely 3x angle valve seats & a decent surface skim.
It'll probably need a good mm or more off it to bring our comp ratio back up from opening up all those chambers quite a fair bit.

& i can pick up the 2x other heads we did a coupla weeks ago while im there... give the boys a heap of heads to fit while im away.
😍πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯²πŸ˜

It is what it is & it has to be done.

& we have the Race-Buggy floor pan off now too,,, all cleaned-up & the chain tightened & lubed...

the chain was a fair bit loose... all that violent turbo power snapping into action stretches everything.

All good to go now, we just have to re-fit the floor & the wheels & ill get it onto the trailer first thing Monday morning for a trip to Joel's Hub-dyno.

See if we can pull a little more boost... a little more ignition,,, & maybe a bit more revs up top.

Hope it doesnt go "POP"
😍πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ˜
See y'all soon
