⚙️ Does more technology make cars less reliable?

Not necessarily.

Modern engines have more sensors, more electronics, more control systems and far more complex software than older cars.

But that technology also gives us much better control over:

✅ Fuel
✅ Ignition timing
✅ Boost
✅ Variable cam timing
✅ Knock control
✅ Engine protection

The bigger issue is that modern technology allows us to make far more power from the same size engine.

More boost, more cylinder pressure, more heat and more torque all increase the load on the engine, gearbox, cooling system and fuel system.

So is technology reducing reliability?

Or is technology simply allowing us to push the mechanical package much harder than we ever could before?

Complexity isn’t necessarily the enemy of reliability. Power without enough engineering margin is.

A Fuse Protects the Wire

A fuse is sized to protect the wiring—not simply the fuel pump, thermo fan or accessory connected to it.

This matters when upgrading fuel-pump wiring or electric-fan wiring.

A larger pump or fan may draw more current, but fitting a larger fuse to the original wiring is not correct.

The correct approach is:
Correct cable size
Correct relay size
Correct fuse size
Fuse mounted close to the power source

More current needs more than a bigger number on the fuse.

VE Manual V8 Owners — Keep an Eye on This

We’re seeing this with increasing frequency: under-bonnet fires around the clutch master-cylinder area.

The likely cause is the clutch reservoir feed hose failing, allowing clutch fluid to spray onto the hot exhaust and creating a fire.

A small fluid hose can create a big problem.

Scan Tools Have Limits

A scan tool can't see a broken wire.
It only reports what the ECU is seeing.
Often
You still need testing.
