Did you know that in 1962, a Nissan Patrol became the first motor vehicle to cross Australia's legendary Simpson Desert? 🏜️🚀
Behind the wheel was geologist Reg Sprigg, accompanied by his wife Griselda and their two young children, on an extraordinary journey through one of the most remote and unforgiving landscapes on the planet.
With no GPS, no established vehicle tracks, and an endless sea of towering sand dunes to conquer, the family spent almost two weeks navigating the vast red desert, averaging just 5 km/h.
Their remarkable expedition became a milestone in Australian 4WD history, proving what the Nissan Patrol was capable of long before crossing the Simpson Desert became a bucket-list adventure.
64 years later, the spirit of exploration is alive and well.
And this 2026 Nissan Patrol Y62 has found its way to McCormacks 4WD, where the next chapter of its adventure begins.
