Fantastic day at the 100yr Pontiac show in Perth yesterday!

A big thank you to Andy for organising this great event. What a turn out.

Thank you to everyone who brought their cars along, nice to finally meet some of you… and Ponti-world for donating prizes.

Our team made the 3.5hr road trip up from Bridgetown with the Ram Air IV headed ‘66 GTO and our ‘62 Catalina in tow. We are in the process of getting the Catalina licensed in WA as we brought the car over from QLD last year. We decided to show it as a ‘work in progress’ without the exhaust and interior and other bits n pieces. Down the track she will be built with the Super Duty dual quad intake and Carter carbs by Jarrod we had on display. We have had the body off the frame for minor rust repairs, replaced the boot floor and completely reworked the whole car. Not long now.

Finally want to thank our crew for answering a ton of questions on the day and for all their help in making the trip up north possible. Good to get to the pub a couple of times too.🇦🇺👍😎

Jewel Green 1971 XY GT updates.

We are in the middle of recommissioning this rare GT and thought you may like to see a few pics of what we have found so far..

We removed the fuel tank for cleaning & you can see the state of the fuel found inside! We have flushed it all out with the pressure washer and chemically treated the inside to prevent this happening again. We found the usual crack in the old float on the sender unit so this will be replaced with a new correct 3/8” unit and we will have a fuel gauge again.

The original tank is back in and seam sealed in place stopping grime and road debris getting into the boot.

We knew the timing chain needed replacing as it looked like the original through the fuel pump window and was very loose. You can see the comparison of the old genuine Ford set up with nylon gear v the new Rollmaster billet roller.

Unfortunately when we went to install the new Rollmaster chain we realised the cam had no end float and it wouldn’t turn by hand. A closer look and we could see that the cam bearings were starting to come apart with slivers of bearing past the journals. After removing the valve train / lifters we then had to knock the original cam out leaving debris inside the cam tunnel.

At this point we decided to check all internals and found most of the rod bearings starting to let go too. As we removed the caps the shells just fell straight out with signs of detonation.

Next up we removed the oil pump for disassembly and you can clearly see a large amount of debris has been through the engine at some stage.

All of this has brought on a full engine rebuild and it will now head up to Galloway Engineering in Pinjarra for machining.

We will treat her to a custom grind Comp hydraulic roller and short travel Morel lifters. Longer 302 connecting rods, modern pistons with a floating pin and nice ring pack.

Back in business!

Just received these mint Ram Air Restorations long branch manifolds today from Paul Jnr in the US.

We’ve had quite a few calls asking if this company is still running. Just to clear things up it is now operated by Paul’s son, also named Paul after his father passed away last year.

Great communication and pricing on a variety of Pontiac reproduction Ram Air manifolds.👍😎

1978 Trans Am.

We are pleased to have this beautiful example back at the shop for her first 5,000 km service after the recent engine build. We changed the oil & filter and swapped to synthetic after break in. We cut the filter open and it’s clean as a whistle.

If you have been following us you’ll remember this engine is a standard stroke, .040” over 400 Pontiac that was rebuilt with a mild hydraulic roller cam and Morel short travel lifters. It’s set up for highway driving and general cruising with GM’s optional 2.56:1 rear.

While it was back we corrected the speedo as it was reading a fair bit under due to new taller 27” tyres. This involved sourcing a new driven gear housing and replacing the speedo gears to calibrate and read correctly. Great result and within 2kph at 110 with the GPS.

We also swapped to a more modern A/C compressor and supporting components as the older style replica failed within a very short time.

There were several exhaust leaks to fix up to from the standard Felpro gaskets in the overhaul kits. These were discarded in favour of the Remflex and highly recommend if your planning your next build. Not the cheapest but worth it.

The dash fascia was also removed to track down an electrical backfeed to the instrument cluster and to sort out the blower fan that was staying on when the control was in the off position.

Lots of little nigling issues that we have now sorted for our customer.

Such a fantastic example and with regular maintenance these cars are a joy to drive. 👍😎

1932 Steel bodied Ford pick up.

This fantastic ‘32 Ford rod came to us running rough and misfiring on a couple of cylinders…

We checked it out and found a couple of plug wires were perished and one of the spark plugs #7 cylinder was shot.

So a fresh set of NGK’s, new plug wires and distributor cap and she was running smooth again.

Took a while to start so we checked timing and bumped it up a little, set the accelerator pump and re did the idle mixture adjustment. Took it for a test drive and we are very happy.

Nice local truck with a cool dark blue / purple paint and wide wheels.👍😎

1971 XYGT.

While we wait for parts on various other muscle cars in the shop we took on this genuine Ford Falcon GT in Jewel Green.

This car really does look like a barn find and is exactly how you like to find them. Lots of original parts and finishes to this fantastic example.

Brought in on a flatbed the engine wasn’t starting and the rear brakes were locked on and she was unable to move by herself.

We have been asked by the owner to carry out a thorough recommissioning and get her ready for regular driving duties.

Well we wasted no time in diagnosing the ‘no start’ and found a faulty fuel pump. While we were there we noted the factory Ford style timing chain that is very loose. A look down the bores with the borescope as the engine hasn’t been started for a long time. Fresh fuel and we slowly coaxed it back to life and it blew a bunch of rubbish out the exhaust.

Early days with this one but the plan is reliability with some modern performance upgrades.

The interior is in fantastic condition and when you open the doors you are greeted with an older musty smell….perfect.

All panels are really straight with no noted rust yet. Doors close like a bank vault.

We will bag all of the original parts up for safe keeping and keep you updated on getting this one back on the road!👍🇦🇺
