1954 Ford Y block engine.

We now have this beautiful set of triple Holley 94’s bolted down to a rare vintage tri power Edelbrock #573 aluminium intake manifold.

The tri power set up was sourced by the owner from New Zealand and shipped over to us where our carb guru Jarrod went to work rebuilding them.

New parts were sourced from the US including adjustable main jets and progressive tri power throttle linkage.

The center carb has the choke and is used for idling and light throttle conditions until you press down on the accelerator pedal a little more and all three roar into life.

Custom length chromoly pushrods were sourced in Aus from Jet Engineering and laser cut shims were made for the rocker pedestals to correct valve train geometry.

Getting close to firing her up and breaking in the custom grind Comp cam and solid lifters.

More updates soon.

How not to build a Pontiac 400.

Making this post for the guys that are planning their next engine build…

This #988 ‘73 400 engine came down to us for a camshaft upgrade but as we unloaded the engine we noted that it had a set of 4X cylinder heads bolted on.

This engine had been built by another machine shop and sat on a stand while the owner restores his Firebird.

Alarm bells rang as these are 455 smog heads with extremely large combustion chambers made for a 4.21” stroke.

As this was a standard stroke 3.75” 400 the decision was made to pull the heads and check the comp ratio.

We found the large chambered heads measured out at 115cc! We then checked the piston heights and found they were assembled .038” below the deck. Add in a .045” head gasket and you now have a quench height of .083”. All of this adds up to an incredibly low 6.6:1 compression ratio! If it ran it would have been an absolute turd.

Take a look at the finished deck surface👎

Unfortunately for the owner he now has to pay twice.

We will get it all sorted for him and this engine will be completely stripped and checked over. The decks will be zeroed and we have a super nice set of #62 72cc heads to go on bringing comp up to around 10:1.

Hopefully this post helps the next guy out there gathering parts for his new engine build. Always question your builder for info when it comes to your pride and joy. Matching up parts correctly is a must.

1972 XA GT.

The owner of the 410ci Cleveland we built for his XY GT replica kindly dropped off another one of his cars for us to sort out.

This time a mint restored genuine XAGT complete with matching numbers driveline including the 351 4V Cleveland and FMX gearbox 9inch rear.

Once unloaded we took it for a test drive and soon discovered it was running incredibly rich. It was so bad it was fouling the plugs and misfiring throughout the rev range.

We quickly got to work and inspected the aftermarket 750cfm carby. It was poring fuel past the boosters and we changed the o rings on the secondary needle and seat. While we were at it we removed the metering blocks and replaced the bowl & power valve gaskets.

You can see the debris found behind the secondary metering block.

Car is back up and running and so much better already but we still have some tuning to do…. Stay tuned for updates on this beautiful example of Fords finest👍😎

Filling the heat risers on a rare set of Pontiac 421HO heads with forged aluminium.

Destined for our 1962 Catalina.

We broke apart and melted down a bunch of junk forged pistons and poured them into the heat cross over passages and let them cool slowly back to room temperature.

These heads will be sent up to Galloway Engineering in Pinjarra for new valve guides, valve seats and machining for viton valve stem seals and screw in rocker studs. We will also get the chambers sized to suit our desired comp ratio.

Finally getting the chance to use these rare heads after sitting on our shelf for many years.👍😎

Holdens Iron Lion 304…

Our latest build is this Holden 5lt 304 cubic inch injected engine.

This is the engine removed from the red VR Ute that came in with major oiling problems and has been treated to a factory style standard rebuild.

The engine was stripped down and sent up to Galloway Engineering in Pinjarra and all components were chemically cleaned along with the block being resized .030” over for new pistons.

A brand new factory replacement camshaft was sourced to match the Holden ecm with factory tune. Hylift Johnson flat tappet hydraulic lifers were chosen for their superior quality and reliability as we don’t need to take any chances breaking in the cam on start up.

All lifters were checked for correct crown & lifter to bore clearance. We also made sure they rotated without issue once we had the valve train bolted down.

Cylinder heads have been refreshed with new seats and viton valve stem seals.

A super nice factory build awaiting engine installation in the next week or so when we find the room…👍😎
