His team of forever faithful pelicans are always waiting for a feed when he returns. 😊

The story of Kerry ⚓

As many are aware, each boat in the Andersons fleet is named after a close friend or family member of the Andersons family, with some of those names dating back to 1945.

Bill Anderson named Kerry after one of his closest friends and best man—a talented pilot with a love of dancing whose life was tragically cut short in a plane crash. Naming one of his boats after him ensured his friend's memory would continue to live on.

Kerry is one of the original hire boats built by Bill Anderson and has been part of Andersons Boatshed's story for generations.

Powered by a single-cylinder Blaxland engine, just like the other original open boats, Kerry proudly remained a timber-hulled boat throughout her years in our hire fleet, never being fibreglassed while she was with us.

The original boats Bill Anderson built all had a distinctive style that made them instantly recognisable, yet no two were ever exactly the same. Bill built each one by hand, making small refinements along the way. He always believed Kerry was built just about perfect.

For decades, Kerry was a familiar sight on Brisbane Water, spending much of her life taking families around the bay right through to the early 1990s.

Around 1992, Kerry was sold along with several of her fleet mates—Stan, Ted, Ron and John.

Years later, we spotted her again, first moored at Hardys Bay. By then she'd been fibreglassed and fitted with a twin-cylinder Blaxland engine. Later she found another home at Davistown, where she had been converted again, this time with a Simplex engine, and regularly took part in the annual Putt Putt Regatta, proudly still carrying the name Kerry.

We eventually got to know her owner at Davistown. When he was no longer able to use her, we were honoured to bring Kerry home once again. She now rests safely with us, waiting patiently for what we hope will one day be a full restoration or begin a new chapter at the Boatshed.
