šŸ”„ AN XC COUPE HAS ARRIVED AT VIKING HQ šŸ”„

And judging by Damienā€™s reactionā€¦ we may have just discovered his favourite car of all time. šŸ˜‚ Heā€™s VERY happy to see this one roll through the doors.

And really, who can blame him?

The Ford XC Coupe is an absolute icon of Aussie muscle. That long bonnet, huge rear quarters and unmistakable shape have made these cars a favourite for generations ā€“ and nearly 50 years later, they still have serious presence. šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ

This one has come to Viking for some repair and body work, and in the video Damien and Greg walk us through what needs fixing and how we go about tackling repairs like these properly.

We also get a look behind the scenes with Damien and our lead panel be**er Chris, making some adjustments on the Auto Robot as they work through getting the body back where it needs to be.

Not every classic needs a full restoration or major build. Sometimes itā€™s about carefully repairing whatā€™s there, getting everything right again and preserving a great Aussie classic for many more years on the road.

Although with an XC Coupe in the workshop, we may have trouble getting Damien to let this one leave. šŸ˜‚

This 1972 Ford F-100 Bumpside is getting seriously close to completion, so its owner, Dave, came into the Viking workshop to check out the progress, talk through the final refinementsā€”and get behind the wheel.

A big thank you to Dave for being such a good sport while we followed him around with a camera in his face! šŸ˜„

Originally powered by a 240ci six-cylinder, this F-100 is now packing a Coyote 5.0 Gen 4X engine with a six-speed Tremec gearbox, along with some serious custom fabrication and upgrades.

Triple carbs look brilliantā€”but when several systems are working against each other, diagnosing a rough-running classic can get messy fast.

Dan brought his TE Cortina to Viking after the engine had been rebuilt elsewhere, but it was still difficult to start and running roughly.

During our initial diagnostics, we found:

šŸ”§ Low voltage reaching the ignition system, so we repaired the wiring to restore the full 12 volts
šŸ”§ A choke mechanism that hadnā€™t been installed or adjusted correctly
šŸ”§ An ongoing misfire that could be coming from the ignition system, fuel systemā€”or a combination of both

The Cortina now starts properly from cold, but the investigation isnā€™t over. The distributor system needs to be addressed first, then we can continue isolating the misfire. Damienā€™s money is currently on the fuel system.

Weā€™re also considering replacing the triple-carb setup with a single carburettor supplied by the ownerā€”but first, we need to work through the overlapping faults properly rather than simply swapping parts and hoping for the best.

This is exactly where experience with older cars matters.

Most general mechanics are trained around modern vehicles and diagnostic systems. Classics donā€™t always give you a fault code or one obvious answer. They often have decades of repairs, modifications and mismatched systems layered togetherā€”and finding the real cause takes patience, methodical testing and genuine old-car knowledge.

Damien talks us through what weā€™ve found so far and what happens next.

MEET THE VIKING CREW | STEVE šŸŽØšŸ”„

Steve has been around paint and panel shops since he was five, thanks to his dadā€”and after 34 years as a spray painter, he still loves bringing old cars back to life.

Although, if you ask Steve whatā€™s kept him in the trade this long, heā€™ll tell you itā€™s the fumes. šŸ˜‚

What he really loves is seeing an ownerā€™s reaction when they see the finished result.

Steve has worked with Viking on and off as a contractor for around five years, and weā€™re very happy to now have him permanently on the crew.

He loves the variety of work hereā€”but heā€™s also putting the call out for more hotrods to paint!

With Steve and Ben, Viking now has two seriously experienced painters on the team.

Adamā€™s Summernats-winning truck is back at Viking for its first service and check-over after clocking up around 1,000km.

And we absolutely love that itā€™s being driven. This truck was never built just to sit in a shed ā€” it was made to get out on the road and be enjoyed šŸ’Ŗ

With those first kilometres under its belt, Adam has noticed itā€™s been a little difficult to start when cold. In this video, Greg talks through whatā€™s happening and what weā€™re doing to resolve it.

MEET RYAN šŸ‘‹ | THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE VIKING CREW

If you spotted a new face in our Friday Whip Aroundā€¦ here he is!

Meet Ryan, the newest mechanic to join the Viking Hotrods team. šŸ”§

Ryanā€™s interest in all things mechanical started young. Growing up with a dad who was a real jack-of-all-trades and did pretty much everything himself, Ryan was brought up with the same mentality ā€” if something needs fixing, learn how to fix it.

Cars, lawn mowers, enginesā€¦ if it had something mechanical going on, he was interested.

That interest grew into a real fascination with engines, engineering and motor racing, and these days Ryan is particularly interested in fabrication and machining. Machining is actually in the blood, with a long family background in the trade.

But one of our favourite things Ryan told us was what heā€™s enjoying most about Viking.

After coming from work that had become pretty monotonous, he loves that no two days here are the same.

ā€œI get up every morning now keen to go to work.ā€

We reckon that says a lot. šŸ™Œ

Ryan also told us he was blown away by our recruitment and employment process, and how much emphasis we place on looking after our people ā€” something thatā€™s incredibly important to us as we continue building the right crew.

Ryan rounds out our mechanical team, working alongside our panel be**ers and painters to give us a seriously diverse mix of skills under one roof.

Peteā€™s ā€™46 Chev is back at Viking! šŸ”„

We built this truck years ago, and these days Pete doesnā€™t just save it for Sunday drives ā€” itā€™s his daily driver.

And thatā€™s exactly how we like to see them. šŸ‘Š

Bringing an old car back to life is one thing. Keeping it reliable, safe and performing the way it should when itā€™s being driven every day takes the right maintenance and a team that understands what theyā€™re looking at.

In this reel, we catch up with our Operations Manager Damien to talk through what Peteā€™s truck is in for and why classics like this need a little extra care when theyā€™re clocking up regular kilometres.
