It is with a heavy heart we inform of the passing of Paul Taffa, motorcycle mechanic of Daytona Motorcycles.

He will be remembered for his independent spirit and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

One of his greatest joys was working on motorcycles and he took pride in fixing his customer's bikes, up to his last few days.

A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Paul will be held on Thursday 6 August 2026, commencing at 9:30 am in the Mary, Mother of Mercy Chapel, Barnet Avenue, Rookwood Catholic Cemetery, Rookwood.

For those that wish to attend and cannot, the service will be live streamed. We will post the link when available.

Updates on the future of Daytona Motorcycles will follow in due course.

Thank you.

Greetings.

An update on my health and the shop.

After some hassle, (one thing is it turns out I should not have been issued the suspension in first place...) the medical suspension has been lifted and I am now back on the road.
YAY!!

I will be returning to the shop on Friday, and then more permanently, with some absences required for my ongoing medical requirements.

The phone has been ringing and I can only thank all of you for "keeping the faith"

See you soon.

Greetings all.

Its been a while since I posted here, and while some of you are on my personal FB page, it is (over) time I brought everyone up to date.

On Tuesday 4th May, I woke up feeling weak and rather dizzy. I had very little strength and was unable to stand or walk properly.

I called an ambulance and when they arrived they thought I was having a stroke. They dosed me with a pretty solid shot of Morphine and took me awaaay!!!

I have no real memeory of what happened, the story I got was I was taken to Blacktown Hospital, and they said we can't take him, or the ambos figured I was better at Westmead.

I ended up at Westmead Hospital, and was operated on promptly.
It turns out I have stage 4 cancer in my RH kidney and this has traveled to my brain. The operation removed the tumor from the RHS side just near the ear. I still have the cancer cells in my kidney and there are growths on one of my hip bones and spots in my lungs.

I have no memory of Tuesday, Wenesday, and most of Thursday. It took most of a week to get back to somewhere near normal, but after that time, I felt fine. They still kept me in for observation and to check for side-effects. I had none.

After over 5 weeks in hospital I was discharged, and the came the 5 radiation treatments. These finished last Thursday, and next month I start the drug therapy for the reamining cells. I won't be getting chemo as these particular cells won't respond to chemo.

The shop has been closed since then, but I WILL get back to open it. Apart from having NO income, and thus being sent broke (literally) the RMS have decided my licence is suspended (not cancelled)
This is a MAJOR problem. I can't travel, shop, and SO many other things. I can't pratically open the shop, add in to this rapidly diminshing funds and things are a bit of a struggle atm.

The phone is still ringing, and there some of you wating for work to be done, or to finish the bikes in the shop. I am going to genuinely make as best an effort to reopen as soon as I can.

I'll keep you updated as best I can. I am capable, confident, clear eyed and coherent. Apart from a sore RH thigh I am mobile and functioning fine.

I thank you for your understanding and I and I wish you to maintain your support for me. I realise there are customers who are frustrated in the circumstances that their bike are now in, and will make this right as soon as I can.

Cheers,

Paul.

Greetings.

After my week off previously I am better, and I thank all you for your best wishes.

Despite that, many of you would have noticed I am doing half days now to manage my recovery better.

For those who have been inconvinenced, I am sorry.

With the Easter break now on, I look forward to seeing you all after Tuesday 7th.

Again, thank you for your understanding and I'll see you all soon.

Greetings.

Hope you are all well.

Those of you who have been in the shop recently may have noticed that I have not been well, and struggling to get things done.

I have been trying to work through it all, but I have decided to close the shop for one week, from Monday 16th to Friday 20th February to give me time to clear my head and get some help.

I will reopen Monday 23rd.
My intention is to be in the shop on an ad-hoc basis during that week.
Please call first if you wish to visit the shop.

Please note all bikes are securely locked in the shop. If you would like to access your bike, please call and arrangements can be made.

I realise this is short notice, and some customers have been waiting for their bikes.
This is not a decision taken lightly, as I usually close only on public holidays and the Christmas/New year break.
I apologise for any inconvenience.

Thank you for your understanding.

Paul.

I see this so often.

Too lazy, or too stupid, to replace a sump plug washer.

The answer?
Tighten it until the washer deforms and end up with a sump plug so tight I had to use a long breaker bar to loosen.

I'm surprised the thread wasn't stripped.

Stuff like this is so common.

And in today's episode of"I'm a temporary Australian"Cheers, Paul.
