Of all the calls we get at our police stations, cars blocking driveways is up there.

People trying to leave home for work, take their kids to school, do the shopping, etc., who've found themselves locked in by an illegally parked car.

The rule is clear:
A driver must not stop on or across a driveway or other accessway to a property unless they're dropping off or picking up passengers, and then, only if:
- they do not leave the vehicle unattended (this means they're not more than three metres from the vehicle)
- they stop for no more than two minutes.

Failure to comply will bring a fine of $275.

B.T.W.: This applies also to your own drive.

Parking across a driveway, even if it is your own driveway, is deemed a safety issue as it stops emergency services from having easy access to the property and can ­obstruct the line of sight for other drivers entering and leaving other nearby properties.
