🌧️ 𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝟳 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 – 𝟭𝟲 & 𝟭𝟳 𝗢𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗕𝗘𝗥 🌧️
This is not the announcement we wanted to make, and it's been a difficult decision.

With the weather forecast so unpredictable, we've reluctantly decided to cancel Round 7.

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. Preparing a safe racing surface takes time, and wet conditions can prevent us from carrying out that work. Even if the rain holds off during racing, rainfall in the lead-up could compromise our ability to properly prepare the track and deliver safe, competitive racing.

𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘆. There's always a chance the weather will turn out better than forecast, and if it does, we'll accept that we may have made a cautious call. But given the uncertainty, we'd rather make the decision early than risk competitors incurring significant travel and nomination costs, only to have the event cut short or cancelled by rain.

We're genuinely disappointed, and we know many of you will be too.

Ever wondered what happens when the rubber on a drag strip starts peeling or lifting off the racing surface?

There's no quick fix! 😅

All that old rubber has to be scraped off, the surface broomed, washed and thoroughly cleaned… before we start all over again laying down fresh rubber! 🏁

We’re kicking off from 9am for a full day of work, with a big day of track scraping ahead to make sure the racing surface is ready for Round 7 next weekend.

While we’re working towards a brand-new racing surface through Project Blacktop, we still need to keep our old faithful maintained and performing at its best in the meantime.

It’s a beautiful day, so if you can spare a few hours — or stay for the day — we’d really appreciate the extra hands.

𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑹𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒕 𝑩𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒚 𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒘𝒂𝒚

Benaraby Dragway has officially introduced 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐓𝐎𝐏 — a long-term vision to renew and elevate the racing surface for the next generation of drag racing in Central Queensland.

Established in 1980, the racing surface has seen many partial upgrades over the decades, with some original sections still remaining today. After more than four decades of use, now is the time to plan for a comprehensive long-term solution.

𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐓𝐎𝐏 is about delivering a safer, stronger and more capable racing surface that can support the future growth of the sport, attract higher-level racing and major events, and bring broader tourism and economic benefits to the Gladstone Region.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬:
🏁 Full-length concrete racing surface with bitumen run-off
🏁 Properly engineered subgrade and pavement construction
🏁 Comprehensive drainage improvements
🏁 Sand-trap and braking area improvements
🏁 Expansion of staging lanes from two to four
🏁 Long-term performance, safety and durability

This is expected to be a 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢-𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, so our focus now is on developing a technically sound, funding-ready proposal.

To drive that process, we have established a small 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐓𝐎𝐏 subcommittee with extensive experience across major project delivery, project management, contracting and commercial management.

🤝 We’re also incredibly grateful to 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑘 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐿𝑢𝑘𝑒 𝐹𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑡 at 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬, and 𝐴𝑛𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑤 at 𝐉𝐅&𝐏 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬, who were quick to put their hands up and support the project with engineering and surveying expertise.

🔎 And the groundwork has already begun.
