He built a touring truck with us, put four years of hard travel on it, then came back with a simple brief: go bigger. The result is a 2026 F-450 Platinum in Avalanche, and it's one of our favourite builds to ever leave the shed.
The numbers tell half the story. A 7.2 tonne GVM. Four inch LiquidSpring suspension that adjusts ride height and levels itself whether the truck is empty or dragging a big trailer. 41 inch Goodyear Kevlar super singles, which also means one spare fits anywhere on the truck. And a full air brake system, because this thing is built to tow seriously big loads.
The other half is the gear that came with him. His canopy, Bush Company rooftop tent, CleverShade awning and Victron power system had already proven themselves over four years of real touring, so rather than bin good equipment we refreshed the canopy, built a new tray underneath it and designed the rest of the truck around it. Then we added twin Carbon winches, a custom Outback Kitters bar, full Baja Designs lighting, 240L of diesel, Starlink and around 140L of water, and it still has over a tonne of usable payload in touring trim.
