***Weekend Reading: In 1992, after GILFLITE began manufacturing the "Rush" sports jet boat under contract for Mercury Marine, Mercury Marine chose to also use the GILFLITE Esprit hull, which they branded and sold as the Bermuda.

GILFLITE Boats: Pioneers of Australian Powerboat Design. From the early days in the 1960's, designing and building race boats, the GILFLITE range of models, like the Esprit, the Integra and the Shortline, set new benchmarks in performance and craftsmanship. These boats, built with precision at the GILFLITE Headquarters, became icons on the water - each model with its own story, its own legacy, and its own place in Australian boating history.

Dive into the high-octane world of Australian Powerboat Racing in the 60's, 70's and 80's - an era of Thunderboats, raw speed, and fearless competition. if you live for the rush of powerboat racing, this is your must-read
...In the early 1960’S, Bruce Walker from Heyfield in Victoria and Col Winton built a plywood and aluminium Hydroplane boat which was powered by a ROLLS ROYCE MERLIN engine. This boat was called THE GLENMAGGIE MONSTER, racing at Glenmaggie over a period of time and eventually was sold to STAN JONES in the late 60’s. It was registered in the Victorian Speedboat Club as VS41 and re-named STAMPEDE, it raced alongside AGGRESSOR and other Unlimited Boats with Bob Saniga and Stan Jones sharing the driving it went on to win the 1970 and 1971 E.C. GRIFFITH Cup, the most prestigious Trophy in Speed Boat Racing.

In 1972 the old STAMPEDE had run its race, it was discarded and a new boat was built........ link to full story below
