At the racetrack, every day’s a school day.
Always learning, always trying things to better lap times.
It’s the first season for these two bikes and our first season on Supertwins and the development is continuing. The bikes have been running the standard 4.5” rear rim with Bridgestone R11’s. They are a fantastic tyre that we’ve used previously on other bikes. We wore them out and decided to use slicks. Stuck a R02 165/630-17 on the 4.5 and as expected it looked like crap (pulls round too much). That was the excuse we needed to go to 5.5” rims. We stuck the 165 on the 5.5” (it’s rated to fit 4.5 - 5.5”) rims and off we went. At first the feel was really good but in no time at all they tore up resulting in no edge grip. A few slides and a near high side later Rob put a 180/55-17 on the Gen2 and within a handful of laps drop nearly two seconds off his lap times and was grinning from ear to ear and full of confidence.
Our little team is gathering momentum. A few people have taken a bit of notice to these bikes and the things they are capable off for very little money (well, comparatively lol).
A big thanks to PCRA for hosting the round 3 in challenging times for clubs.
