Captain's Lyzlov, Woods, Davis and Maguire having completed 2 days Emergency Simulation Training including enhanced professional development elements across Port Phillip Heads, Port of Melbourne and Port of Geelong. Extensive preparation was undertaken prior to this session with scenarios shaped around common emergency skills, enhanced emergency skills, licence class progression risk profiles, transit towage and learnings from recent occurrences experienced across all port areas. The team also workshopped and simulated response scenarios to air draft breaches detected by the new LIDAR system in the Port of Melbourne. Many thanks to James Riley and the AMC Search Sim Team for their expertise, enthusiasm and great humour.

🚁 Celebrating Excellence: Erin Mealor takes out the DCN Young Achievement Award! 🌟

We are thrilled to congratulate Erin Mealor on winning the Young Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions to the maritime and aviation industries over the past 12 months.

As a Helicopter Pilot at Auriga Aviation, Erin has gone above and beyond, playing a pivotal role in mentoring cadet pilots, ensuring safe and efficient operations, and advocating for greater gender diversity in aviation. Her dedication to training, coupled with her efforts to inspire the next generation of pilots—particularly young women and Indigenous students—has set a new benchmark for excellence and inclusion.

Erin’s leadership is shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for our industry, and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate this well-deserved recognition with her. Congratulations Erin, you continue to make Auriga proud!

Auriga Aviation Mackay had the honor of hosting the 105SQN Airforce cadets from Mackay. The 34 cadets were given a chance to explore our two latest acquisitions, the cutting-edge H145 and H135 Helionix Airbus helicopters. Captain Steve Davis, our instructor pilot with over 28 years of experience, introduced the cadets and led them on a tour of the hangar, sharing insights about the Auriga Group and the Marine Pilot Transfer business. Alongside Captain Ben Hoiles, he was available to answer the cadets’ questions about training and career paths in the helicopter industry. Their extensive knowledge and professionalism may have inspired some of these aspiring aviators to consider a future in helicopters instead of fast jets.

Last week marked Airport Safety Week, an initiative by the Australian Airports Association (AAA) that brings together airport staff and the communities they serve to share ideas on enhancing risk management systems and fostering a strong safety culture.
In support of Airport Safety Week, the Auriga team proudly participated in a FOD (Foreign Object Debris) walk at Karratha Airport. FOD poses a significant safety risk to the aviation industry, but by joining forces with other airport-based organisations, Auriga contributed to making the airport a safer place for everyone.

A huge thank you to the City of Karratha for organising this important event

ISPO is a standard of best practice for maritime pilot organisations, improving safety and quality. ISPO provides self-regulation and transparency in pilotage standards to all port related stakeholders.

The total number of pilot organisations that comply with the ISPO code has risen to 35, representing approximately 1400 pilots. More and more pilot organisations appreciate the benefits of the standard. The ISPO community is growing continuously.

The annual ISPO conference will take place in Melbourne, Australia, on the 9th and 10th of October.

Auriga Group would like to invite all pilot organisations and maritime stakeholders to attend the conference at the Rydges Hotel centrally located in Melbourne.

The conference will focus on the handling of a serious incident under pilotage by a mock court. Various speakers from pilot organisations, authorities and regulators will discuss numerous topics related to ISPO.

Please request your free registration at [email protected] or [email protected] Travel and accommodation costs are for your own account.
