A leaking axle seal may not look like much from the outside, but inside that brake drum is a different story.
The handbrake doesn't hold due to the oil, the brake shoes will need to be replaced after soaking in that oil, and the hidden issue- the wheel bearing being washed out by the oil.
Some people would say just replace the seal, clean it up and drive on,
What would you recommend in this situation?

Wet Belts, yes, a Timing Belt that runs in oil, which breaks down over time and can lead to engine failure if not replaced at the correct service interval.
Does your Vehicle have a "Wet Belt" for the Timing?
Not sure? Talk to your Mechanic and ask them about it.
