Being a good driver doesnโ€™t always mean test day will be easy. ๐Ÿš—

Some young people feel confident driving with familiar people but struggle when an unfamiliar assessor gets into the car.

Drive With Me helps parents prepare their young person for on-road assessments, build confidence and develop strategies to manage test-day nerves.

The program may also be used with NDIS funding, subject to eligibility and plan requirements.

Supporting Pelvic Asymmetries in Wheelchair Seating - Small adjustments can make a big difference to everyday comfort. โ™ฟ

For someone who spends much of their day in a wheelchair, the right seating setup can make a real difference to how they feel, move and participate in everyday life.

But what happens when their pelvis isn't sitting evenly or comfortably?

Last week, Kat and Megan from our Assistive Technology team got hands-on with the Spex Constructa and Dreamline STX seating systems, exploring how different cushion adjustments can support pelvic positioning, stability and comfort.
Because wheelchair seating isn't just about posture. It's about helping people feel secure, move more freely and get on with the things that matter to them.
A big thank you to our friends at Home Care Equipment for sharing their knowledge and supporting our team's ongoing learning.
Is your wheelchair seating still meeting your needs?

Whether you're experiencing discomfort, changes in posture or simply wondering if your current setup could be improved, our OT team can help assess your seating and explore suitable options.

Vehicle modifications can help make driving more accessible for people who need an alternative to conventional steering, braking and acceleration controls. ๐Ÿš—

This setup features a two-way joystick for braking and acceleration, paired with a mini-wheel electronic steering system. The joystick allows the driver to control speed and braking through a single control, while the mini-wheel provides an alternative way to steer the vehicle.

These modifications may support people who have limited strength, mobility or range of movement in their arms or legs, helping them operate vehicle controls in a way that better suits their abilities.

Every setup is individualised to the driver's needs, abilities and goals, with safety and functional independence at the centre of the assessment process.

What a fantastic night at the 2026 Australian Allied Health Awards! โœจ

I couldn't be prouder of Jenny Gribbin, who took out Occupational Therapist of the Year! ๐Ÿ†

Jenny and I co-hosted the Drive_able podcast ( Drive-ABLE Podcast), and I'm fortunate to call her a great friend. She's an incredible OT, a passionate advocate for our profession and, most importantly, a genuinely wonderful person. So well deserved, Jenny!

It was also fantastic to see occupational therapists so strongly represented throughout the night, including taking home team and group awards. What a great reflection of the incredible work being done across our profession.

A special shout-out to Megan Tan from One Rehabilitation, who won the Innovative Service Delivery Award! Megan was my senior OT when I first started my career, so seeing her recognised all these years later was pretty special. Always great to see a fellow South Aussie taking home an award!

And finally, a huge thank you to Sarena and her entire team at Allied Health Awards for putting on such a wonderful event. Bringing the allied health community together to recognise, celebrate and inspire each other is something worth celebrating in itself. Well done also to Nicole Nott
Feeling proud to be an OT and inspired by the wonderful people who make up our profession. ๐Ÿ’™
