A man has had his car impounded after he was caught driving at a very high speed, only hours after police commenced an operation targeting speeding drivers.

Just after 6.30am, police were conducting speed detection duties on Flagstaff Hill Road in Middleton, when they recorded a Nissan Skyline sedan travelling at 175km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The driver, a 19-year-old Middleton man was reported for exceeding the speed limit and driving at a dangerous speed.
His car was impounded for 28 days, and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Operation Safe Speed October 2017 commenced just after midnight this morning Friday, 13 October and will run until midnight on Sunday, 15 October 2017, with police targeting speeding drivers and drivers who creep over the speed limit.

This operation will include an education focus, reminding drivers of the hazards of creeping and speeding over the legal limit. A brochure produced by the Motor Accident Commission will be provided to all drivers police speak to over the weekend to help reinforce safety messages.

An interesting story about drinking and driving... you think you're ok but... read on...

I BLEW .069 and here's what happened. Two weeks ago I was at the Broken Hill races. Our horse won the last race and it's fair to say me and six mates kicked on, and knocked them back. In bed by midnight. Woke up next morning 8:30am with a five hour drive home to Adelaide ahead of us. We decided to wait before driving so killed an hour in the hotel room then decided to wait even longer and get breakfast. It was now 10:30am. I was worried about driving so we walked to the police station. I explained to the police lady that we were about to drive back to Adelaide. We had done the right thing by staying the night and waiting till 10:30 but we wanted to be sure we weren't over. I asked could she breath test us at the police station. She said they couldn't as its against their policy. She was lovely about it and I understand why they can't but if you're trying to do the right thing it should be encouraged I think. Anyway. She did suggest the pub up the road had a high quality breatho and we could go there. It was now 11am. We had only drank beer ( no shots or spirits) and I was starting to think " bu**er it, it's 11am we are all good" Then I thought for the sake of an extra twenty minutes let's go to the pub she'd suggested. Lucky we did cause I blew .069. The other five lads had mixed results. Three of us were over and the other three blew zero. It's made me rethink driving sunday mornings after a night out. I would have never thought I was over the limit. No way - not a chance. I would have been beyond devastated if I had been done for drink driving. I wonder how many people have been caught the next day?? It's a tough one cause whilst there are theory's on how to calculate when you'd be under there's no garuntees. Plus after a big night on the gas who really knows exactly how much you've drank. Anyway I thought it was worth sharing this yarn cause it might make one of you lot think twice before driving the day after. 👍
