Fake overseas documents lead New Zealand to cancel 440 commercial driver licences

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has revoked 440 commercial driver licences after an internal audit uncovered falsified or altered documents used by applicants converting overseas licences into New Zealand credentials. The irregularities were detected during a July 2025 review of the licence conversion process, which revealed multiple cases of people submitting false or misleading information to secure local driving rights. NZTA is now contacting the individuals involved to advise them that their licences have been revoked and must be surrendered.

We get this question quite often, and the answer MIGHT surprise you😲🤔

There are no laws against changing lanes when driving through a multi-laned intersection, BUT, we don’t recommend it 🙅

It’s important to note the usual lane-change rules apply around indicating and giving way to vehicles already in the lane you’re entering.

However, if you’re in a turn lane, you MUST turn in a direction indicated by pavement arrows in your lane, turn by following turn path lines where marked, and you can’t change lanes across a solid lane dividing line (like the one that divides the through lane and the right- turn lane in this picture).
