It’s Hooded Plover nesting season!

Did you know the Hooded Plover is Australia’s most threatened beach-nesting bird?

These little shorebirds make their nests right on the sand, which means their eggs and tiny chicks can be very hard to spot.

If you’re heading out to enjoy our beautiful coastline, please help give them the best chance to thrive:

🐾 Keep dogs on a lead where required
🚶 Stay clear of fenced and signposted nesting areas
🌊 Walk along the water’s edge past nesting areas
👀 Keep an eye out for these special little locals

Nesting season runs from August to March, so a little extra care while enjoying the beach can make a big difference.

🌊 A Moana tradition that lives on! 🚗

Some things never go out of style.

This fantastic historic photo captures a busy summer's day at Moana Beach, where cars lined the shoreline and families spent long days swimming, fishing, picnicking and making memories by the sea.

One of the things that makes Moana so special is that this tradition is still alive today. Moana Beach remains one of the few metropolitan beaches in Australia where you can drive directly onto the sand (conditions permitting), making it a truly unique South Australian experience.

It's amazing to look back at how much has changed over the decades—the cars, the fashion and the beach gear—but the joy of a day at Moana Beach has stayed exactly the same.
