Kumho Tire has once again demonstrated its global design competitiveness by winning the German Design Award (GDA) 2026.
The world-renowned award is organized by the German Design Council, which was established in 1953. Leveraging its extensive industrial network and expertise in bridging design and business, the council annually recognizes innovative and forward-looking projects and products.
Kumho Tire was honored in the Automotive Parts and Accessories category under the Excellent Product Design division for its ultra-high-performance tire ECSTA SPORT.
The award-winning ECSTA SPORT is engineered to maximize the driving performance of high-powered vehicles. It features a zigzag tread pattern that enhances stability at high speeds, while its asymmetric tread design—differentiated between the inner and outer sections—ensures optimal performance across a variety of road and weather conditions.
In addition, the tire incorporates a protruding checkered-flag motif within the tread grooves. This design not only reduces road noise but also improves resistance to hydroplaning on wet surfaces, enhancing both functionality and overall design quality.
“The distinctive tread design featuring the dynamic checkered flag motif gives ECSTA SPORT a striking identity,” said the GDA jury. “The blend of functional precision and design clarity is particularly impressive.”
“It is especially meaningful that Kumho Tire has achieved consecutive recognition at major global design awards, including the GDA, the U.S. IDEA Design Awards, and Japan’s Good Design Award,” said Young-Jin Kim, Head of R&D at Kumho Tire. “As tire design is a core element that directly reflects product quality, we will continue to strengthen our premium brand value by developing products that combine advanced technology with differentiated design expertise.”
Kumho Tire recently further solidified its reputation for innovation by winning the Product Concepts category at the iF Design Award 2026 in Germany for its Omni Ring.
