YMPCZ PRESS STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S ADDRESS AT THE PRESIDENTIAL DELIVERY UNIT
31st March 2026.
The Youth Movement for Positive Change Zambia (YMPCZ) has taken note of the recent remarks by Hakainde Hichilema delivered during his engagement with the Presidential Delivery Unit.
As a youth-led organization committed to national development, accountability, and inclusive governance, YMPCZ acknowledges the outlined progress and future ambitions highlighted by the Head of State.
We particularly note the government’s aspiration to double Zambia’s economy by August 2026. While this ambition reflects strong intent, YMPCZ emphasizes the importance of ensuring that such economic growth translates into tangible benefits for ordinary Zambians, especially the youth who continue to face high levels of unemployment and limited access to economic opportunities.
On institutional reforms, we recognize the establishment of the Presidential Delivery Unit as a step toward improving efficiency in public service delivery. However, we urge government to ensure that these reforms are felt at grassroots level, where service delivery gaps remain a daily challenge for many citizens.
Regarding investments in key sectors such as energy and mining, including developments involving Copperbelt Energy Corporation and ZCCM-Investment Holdings, YMPCZ calls for greater transparency, youth participation, and local empowerment in these sectors. Zambia’s natural resources must directly contribute to job creation and sustainable livelihoods for young people.
On agriculture, the projected increase in maize production is commendable. YMPCZ encourages government to move beyond production targets and prioritize value addition, agro-processing, and market access, particularly for young farmers and cooperatives across the country.
We further acknowledge the strides made in social sectors, including increased social cash transfers, the return of learners to school, and the recruitment of health workers. These efforts are vital, and we urge government to ensure their consistency, sustainability, and equitable distribution.
As the country approaches the general elections scheduled for August 13, 2026, YMPCZ welcomes the President’s commitment to peaceful and credible elections. We stress that youth inclusion, transparency, and fairness must remain central to the electoral process. Zambia’s democracy must continue to serve as a model of stability in the region.

Conclusion
YMPCZ remains committed to constructive engagement with government and all stakeholders. We will continue to advocate for policies that prioritize youth empowerment, economic inclusion, and accountable leadership.
The future of Zambia lies in the meaningful participation of its young people, and we call upon leadership at all levels to ensure that no youth is left behind.
