We've already seen the all-new Nissan Tekton in teaser form, but Nissan's latest reveal gives us an even better look at the details.

The standout feature? A bold, upright grille that brings serious Patrol-inspired presence to the front end. And while earlier teaser images suggested a more pronounced bonnet scoop, this latest angle reveals a cleaner, more refined bonnet design than many expected.

It's still unmistakably tough, but the finer details are starting to paint a picture of an SUV that balances rugged capability with modern sophistication.

: A smart new idea from Nissan for future bakkies

Nissan has filed a patent for a new seat and midgate setup that could make doubleā€‘cabs a lot more practical. In simple terms, the rear seats wouldnā€™t just fold ā€” theyā€™d slide forward. When they do, the midgate (the panel between the cabin and the loadbin) can open up, giving you extra space for longer items.

Thereā€™s also an interesting twist: when the seatback moves forward, it can flip into a rearā€‘facing seat. Not for driving, but for when youā€™re parked ā€” the kind of thing that would work well at a fishing spot, a braai, or just relaxing at the dam.

Itā€™s only a patent for now, but itā€™s a clever concept that could make future bakkies a lot more versatile.

ā€” Nissan Uses AI to Cut Vehicle Development Time in Half

Nissan is leaning hard into AI ā€” and the results are already showing. During the development of the new Nissan N7 EV, the brand managed to slash its productā€‘development timeline from 55 months down to just 26 months. Thatā€™s almost half the usual time it takes to bring a new model to market.

According to Nissan Motor President Ivan Espinosa, the breakthrough comes from using AIā€‘powered digital tools across every stage of development ā€” from early design and simulation to testing and manufacturing. Much of this learning comes from Nissanā€™s collaboration with its Chinese partner D**g Feng, where rapid, AIā€‘driven development has become the norm.

For South Africa, this shift could be a gameā€‘changer. Faster development cycles mean global models reach our market sooner, with fewer delays and more refined engineering by the time they land in local showrooms.
