We all love a bargain… but when it comes to your fuel, a cheap fill-up could come with a VERY expensive surprise! 😬💸
There’s growing concern in South Africa about illegally adulterated diesel - where cheaper illuminating paraffin is mixed into diesel and sold as ordinary fuel.
Here’s why diesel drivers need to pay attention! 👇
1️⃣➡️‼️DIESEL ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE A MYSTERY MIXTURE‼️
Modern diesel engines rely on fuel with specific properties. Adding paraffin can reduce the fuel’s lubricating ability, putting expensive components such as high-pressure fuel pumps and injectors at risk.
2️⃣➡️‼️THE REAL COST COULD BE UNDER YOUR BONNET‼️
Poor-quality or contaminated fuel can contribute to rough running, loss of power, starting difficulties and costly fuel-system damage. Repairs can run into thousands of rands!
3️⃣➡️‼️WATCH FOR THE WARNING SIGNS‼️
Does your diesel vehicle suddenly struggle to start, idle roughly, lose power or produce unusual smoke after refuelling? These symptoms can have several causes, but if they appear after filling up, tell your mechanic and mention where and when you bought the fuel.
4️⃣➡️‼️BE SMART AT THE PUMP‼️
✅ Fill up at reputable fuel stations.
✅ Be cautious of diesel priced unusually below the going rate.
✅ Keep your fuel slips - they may help if a problem develops.
✅ If you suspect contaminated fuel, avoid further driving and arrange a professional inspection.
And remember: Cheap doesn’t automatically mean contaminated, and a familiar-looking filling station isn’t a guarantee of fuel quality.
You can’t reliably identify adulterated diesel just by looking at it, smelling it or judging its price.
Our advice? 🤷♂️
👉 SAVE AT THE PUMP, BUT DON’T GAMBLE WITH YOUR ENGINE! 👈
