Your trailer tyres can look fine and still be unsafe: what owners should check before the next trip.

**YOUR TRAILER TYRES CAN LOOK FINE — AND STILL BE UNSAFE. 🛞**
A quick glance before you leave is a good habit, but it does not always tell the whole story. Trailer tyres often spend long periods standing still, exposed to sun, weather and changing loads. That means a tyre can still have tread and appear usable while showing warning signs elsewhere.
Before your next trip, slow down and check a little more closely:
🔴 **Look at the sidewalls.** Fine cracks, bulges, cuts or areas that look perished deserve attention. Check both the outer and inner side where possible—not only the part that is easiest to see.
🔴 **Consider the tyre’s age.** Low mileage does not automatically mean a young or healthy tyre. Find the tyre’s date marking and, if you are unsure how to read it or whether its condition is acceptable, ask a reputable tyre professional.
🔴 **Watch for uneven wear.** One edge wearing faster than the other, flat spots or unusual tread wear can be a clue that something needs to be investigated before the trailer is loaded and taken onto the road.
🔴 **Check the pressure for the trailer and its load.** Do not rely on appearance alone. Use a reliable gauge and follow the tyre and trailer manufacturer’s guidance. The right pressure may depend on the tyre specification and the load being carried.
🔴 **Look for embedded damage.** Nails, screws, stones, cuts and other damage can be easy to miss, especially when the affected section is close to the ground.
🔴 **Do not forget the spare.** A spare that has been ignored for months—or years—may not be ready when you need it. Check its condition, pressure and accessibility, and make sure the equipment needed to change a wheel is present and suitable.
