The Lowveld Old Wheels Club is adding a new gear to our Run to Hops Hollow on 22 February 2026— a proper old-world Yodelling Contest!

Yodelling comes from the mountains of Switzerland.
Before telephones and radios, herdsmen needed a way to communicate across deep valleys. A normal shout disappeared into the cliffs… but a rapid switch between chest voice and head voice carried for kilometres.
So yodelling wasn’t entertainment first — it was practical survival communication. Later it became music, then tradition, and eventually a celebration of open air, echo, and joy. In other words: perfectly suited to vintage motoring people.

Now the important part — practice!
You don’t learn this on the morning of the run… your neighbours must suffer first.

Try this basic pattern (loud, proud and slightly ridiculous):
“YO-del-AY-hee-HOO… HO-la-ree-AY-hee!”

Tips:
• Stand tall (mountain posture)
• Start deep, jump high, then drop again
• Confidence beats talent every time
• Bonus points if dogs answer you

Polish those vocal carburettors — we expect echoes, laughter and at least one future legend born in the parking area.

See you on the run… and remember:
A good yodel is heard.
A great yodel is remembered.
