1985 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 CSL 1600 – Exceptionally Original | Rare Survivor
If you’re looking for one of the most original and unmolested Mk2 Golfs left, this 1985 Volkswagen Golf Mk2 CSL 1600 (5-speed) is something truly special. Early Type 19 Mk2 Golfs in this kind of condition are becoming incredibly rare, especially examples that have remained so complete, original, and well preserved over the past 40 years.
This car has had one lady owner from brand new, and it shows in every detail. It even includes the original purchase receipt from Standard Bank for R13,500 when the car was bought new in 1985, along with the books and spare keys.
The interior is absolutely outstanding – the seats are virtually brand new with no signs of wear, the dashboard is completely crack-free, and all the original carpets and mats remain in excellent condition. Even the original blue parcel shelf/backboard still looks fresh. Details like the OEM VW radio delete and gearlock further add to its originality.
Externally, the car remains largely in its original paintwork, with only the passenger-side door having been resprayed many years ago after a toolbox accidentally fell on it. Aside from a few minor age-related marks, the body is straight and honest.
