I just did a recommended update on my Epson printer. Then it refused to work with my aftermarket printing cartridges.
It worked perfectly with them before the update. I was forced to buy their own cartridges.
These are the last Epson cartridges I will buy. If I can't refill them I'll trash the whole printer and buy somebody else's printer.
Don't do any update if Epson wants you to.
