I just put this 2000 Ducati Monster 750 through the paces on Indiana 39 south of Monrovia. As I hit the twisties I gained a big smile and thought this is the perfect bike to experience a Ducati; Classic Ducati trellis frame, light and flickable, great desmo sound, and plenty of power to accelerate out of turns. This Z1 inspired Kawasaki Z900 RS modern classic was designed to capture the spirit of the old bike, but perform like a modern all purpose ride. I was out on a test ride the other day and as I hit the twisties on 39 South of Monrovia I realized how well balanced the bike is and how well the power comes on as you twist the throttle. The 948cc engine literally rocketed me out of the corners. Turning West onto the empty roads by the barren corn fields I opened the bike up and also noticed how smooth the power was in all gears. I parked it for a while and took a few photos and couldn’t help but noticed that the bike is good looking too; a modern sports bike in retro attire. Manny’s V4 rear suspension rocker bearings were in rough shape. They are teflon coated bushings, not needle bearings, and if you have a Panigale V4 you should be looking after them. More so if you are racing or doing track days. This is a second owner bike and the previous owner neglected the maintenance. There was no l**e to be found and the Teflon was worn off and jammed into the open areas between the bushes and seals. No worries, we got ya Manny!

Picked this up in Michigan for a customer, did the belts and valves and a couple other updates then shipped it to Houston for him to finish up on the final touches. What a beautiful machine!

This 1199 is a complicated but rewarding motorcycle to work on. The front upper frame houses the ram air chamber which flows air around the steering tube. It is also 75% of the airbox which is capped off by the gas tank that adds the remaining 25% of the airbox volume. Four lugs on the heads, two on each head, attach the engine to the front upper frame and completes the two piece frame. The rear suspension and swingarm attach to the back and side of the engine.

Looking from behind you can see how the suspension is all lined up to the left of center. It runs from the swingarm to a rocker by way of a single adjustable rod.

This setup is great on the street and for almost all track day riders but when you are a larger and/or very fast rider the front shock bolt will flex and cause pumping and wallowing which ruins drive.

When we raced these we were not allowed to make modifications in Superstock but they were allowed in Superbike. There were several companies making billet pieces that capture the end eye if the shock.
