Been a while since an update has been given.

Stripped the frame down to bare metal, removed most of the unnecessary brackets, cut the rear frame and installed the cafe loop with integrated taillight/turns.

Completely rebuilt the front forks and triple trees. New tapered bearing conversion, new seals, bushings, and boots.

Complete disassembly of the front and rear wheels. Painted hubs, cleaned rims, installed new bearings and seals, re-laced and trued rims with new spokes.

Cleaned and painted the rear brake drum, and rear sprocket carrier. Installed new bearings and seals.

Installed new adjustable remote reservoir rear shocks.

Put new clip-on hand controls on. I have the rearset foot controls ready to install.

Installed the carburetors on the motor with individual POD filters and a matching crankcase breather.

The finish line is slowly approaching and it’s starting to look nice. Pop would be proud.

Still have to fabricate an electronics tray, rear seat/rear cowl, clean and paint tank, finish cleaning and painting frame, re-wire the entire bike, run new brake lines, fabricate an oil tank and oil lines, fabricate headlight assembly, get new tires, and lastly figure out what type of ignition system I want to run.

It’ll probably be done in time for one ride before winter hits, time will tell.

Time to start setting up the frame and seat for the new style. Here’s a very rough mock-up of what direction it’s going.

A before picture of how dull the carbs were compared to the buffed cap.

And a little sneak peak at how all 4 carbs are going to be finished.

Waiting on some felt O-ring gaskets to get in, then it they can go back together as a set.

A video showing the cleanup and polishing process of the over 200 bolts and screws that I’ve done so far.

Also, next on the to-do list is rebuild the carburetors.

It’s been a couple weeks since the last progress update.

A lot has been done, and I wanted to get a more complete process documented instead of 8 posts with not much change happening.

From the engine case being split apart, the two halves got a good degreasing, clean up in the parts washer, sanding and a paint job.

From there it was all re-assembly. In went all new gaskets and seals. Along with over 200 bolts and screws getting cleaned and hand polished.

There are a few small pieces that need to be stripped and polished, like the valve adjustment caps, along with another 30ish screws for the valve cover itself.

But here is a picture log of the process. It’s a bunch, but a cool still shot timeline of a couple days work.

Got the bottom of the engine split apart. All the transmission components and bearing check out.

Just have to check the clearance on the crank bearing to see if they need replaced.

Then a good clean up and paint and back together it goes. Its pretty dirty on the outside, like everything else. And has some old sludgy oil built up inside. Nows the time to get it taken care of. But its getting there.

Been a couple days. Letting paint cure.

Have the top end of the motor painted, and the heat fins on the cylinders sanded back. Just have to tear into the bottom end, clean it up, paint and then it can all be reassembled.

Obviously with new bearings, seals, and worn internal parts.

But to end up like that when it started as it did, I’d say it’s looking pretty damn good.
