25 hours. 110 degree heat. 1,095 miles on an EV conversion Datsun 620 at the 24 Hours of Lemons.

That is a new record, and this truck earned every mile of it.

We caught up with the team hot off the track at Thunder Hill and walked around the whole build. The swappable battery system that had other teams stopping by the pits to stare. Three separate cooling loops that never threw a single warning light across the entire race. Custom aero they designed, 3D scanned, and built themselves. And a motor that just kept pulling lap after lap in conditions that had no business being survived.

This is what grassroots EV racing looks like right now. And the team is already talking about what it takes to go from record holder to C-class winner.

Most people don't realize VW kept making the Type 2 Bus in Brazil until 2013. This one rolled off the line in 1973, got restored down there, shipped to the US, and went straight to EV Works on Bainbridge Island for a full electric conversion. Tesla modules, Hyper 9 motor, 90kW, and a four-speed manual that still works exactly like it always did. From the outside, nothing gives it away.

Turns out a Chevy Nomad makes a pretty sweet EV Conversion. This is 1 of 8530 built in 1955.

Long story short, a rusted gas tank made the owner of this built gasser look to an EV Conversion so they could drive and enjoy the rare Chevy again.

The shop EV WORKS is redoing the entire thing from the chassis out, upgrading the suspension and brakes, adding motor and battery box mounts, and sorting it so it is better than it was brand new.
