This 2013 Suzuki RMZ-250 came in recently. Customer said the bike died while riding and was looking for somebody that had the knowledge to take it on.
The bike was given a complete inspection in the tear down, and found the timing chain had stretched and wadded in the ignition case. After consulting with the customer, and going through a few options, I was asked to go ahead and build some power, using my knowledge and experience of what work best.
We ended up with a new Wiseco Racers Elite High Compression piston, stage 2 hotcams cam shafts, and a full Yoshimura RS4 exhaust on the power side of the build. There was a few items in the engine that brought about some questions, and we ended up consulting with a Wiseco engineering technician to learn more about the piston. Later on, did the same thing with both Suzuki USA and Hotcams. To back the power, we went with a high tensile hotcams timing chain, and a ProX clutch pack to put the power to the ground. The bike was found to have an incorrect year flywheel, therefore throwing off the TDC timing marks. Understanding how power building components work is a huge issue that is greatly overlooked. Learning the new powerband, we changed out the gearing with a new set of Renthal sprockets and a D.I.D. chain, along with replacing other components in the drive chain. To make sure the bike was good to go for another year, the suspension was serviced by a good friend at PPS Suspension and the fuel delivery system was completely gone through, cleaned out and inspected. The valves, and springs were inspected and mic'd to spec, and Lapped in to clean off carbon build up and insure a quality valve seat. Vales stem seals were replaced, and the new camshafts were lashed exactly to spec with Hotcams tolerances. To put a stop to the power, new pads were put in, and the front brake system was completely rebuilt. To finish it off, was new fluids and filters, that go along with every bike that leaves.
There's just no way to keep custom parts on hand, and shipping really hurt the turn around time. However, we're very excited that this bike is finally headed home to a very excited owner. As always, the customer was kept up to date through the entire build, through pictures, texts, phone calls, and welcome to stop in at any point to physically look the bike over.
