This is one of my “Arachnophobia” folding models made 11 years ago. I had a billet of Tom Ferry mosaic damascus which I used for the blade. The liners and bolsters are titanium, with carving and texturing. The ring around the pivot is Mokuti. Handle scales are mosaic carbon fiber. I believe I used lightning strike carbon fiber for the back spacer. It’s hard to see in this picture, but inside the hole in the bolster is my maker’s mark. This is a flipper. Been awhile since I made a folder. Think I need to make one or two.

I’ve been interested in railroads since I was a little boy, and I like Art Deco. Combine the two and you have American passenger locomotives from the 1930s. The Pennsylvania Railroad built several, including this 4-4-4-4 T1 designed by Raymond Lowey. The pen’s body is ebonite, and the trim is darkened titanium. I tried to capture the shark nose smoke box and the screw that holds the clip is the headlight. The cap sleeve profiles the running boards and the cab. The pen has a long cap with a short barrel to resemble the proportions of the locomotive and tender. Its owner, Phillip Millman (Phillip), brought it to the DC pen show and Nita Broadwell took pictures.

Last day of the DC pen show. Nita took a couple of new pictures. The Dragon is a sole authorship pen. I carved the dragon on the barrel sleeve and the mountains on the cap band. The clip is a broken lance made from stainless damascus and bronze. The sea turtle is a collaboration with Abdiel Acosta. I made the pen and sent just the barrel mid section to Abdiel for his painting of the turtle. My buddy Jason Olson Write Turnz will be next to me for half of the day. This is a bespoke pen. The customer wanted the antique acetate, and I made the fitting from copper with a patina. The lower 3/4 of the barrel is 8 sided. This material is a chore to work with. It’s tubular, not solid, so I have to epoxy plugs in some places. And it’s harder to finish than many synthetics I use. But it’s a classic material with a look all its own. The leather case is handmade by Nita. It will be off across the ocean as soon as I hear from the owner.
