Class-action lawsuit against State Farm:

A new Montana class-action lawsuit alleges that State Farm systematically reduced or denied payment for necessary pre- and post-repair scans performed by independent collision repair shops, even when those scans were needed to verify that vehicles were repaired safely and according to OEM standards.

This case is an important reminder: DRP participation does not replace your responsibility to follow OEM procedures. The lawsuit also raises questions about inconsistent payment practices between DRP and non-DRP facilities.

Although the allegations are specific to Montana and have not yet been proven in court, the broader message applies everywhere: insurer reimbursement decisions should never determine whether a safety-critical procedure is completed.

No dashboard light doesn’t always mean no problem.

Pictured is the front radar on a Honda CR-V. Poor bumper fitment pulled the bumper down, causing the top of the radar to make contact.

The vehicle had already returned to the shop 3 times (and was driven more than 60 miles without a warning light) before our team identified and corrected the issue.

This is why fitment, physical inspection, OEM procedures, and calibration verification all matter. A clean dashboard alone cannot confirm that a safety system is positioned or functioning as intended.

Adaptive Cruise Control is one of the best features in new cars: you can roll down the highway knowing your car will adjust its speed to the cars driving in front of it. The car’s sensors detect any changes before you do, and adjust accordingly.

Your foot doesn’t always have to be on the gas pedal. You’re confident you can get to your next destination safely, and your brain can turn off for a little bit.

But what happens when those sensors are off, even by a little bit? Your car is now detecting a car in the next lane over, instead of the one you’re in.

The brakes slam for no reason, your seatbelt jerks, your coffee spills… bye-bye, rush-hour daydreaming.

This is the best possible outcome of driving with a misaligned radar: just an unexpected automatic brake-check. There are countless stories of drivers getting rear-ended, or rear-ending others, because they trusted that their car’s sensors would pick up any possible disasters before they did.
