Roundabouts trip up a lot of drivers who never had to use one during their own License Test. Here's what matters once you're in one.

→ Yield to traffic already in the roundabout. They have the right of way, not you.
→ Pick your lane before you enter, based on where you're exiting. Changing lanes inside the roundabout is where most mistakes happen.
→ Signal when you're exiting, not when you're entering. That's the part most drivers forget.
→ Keep your speed low and steady. Roundabouts aren't built for full stops or high speeds.
→ Watch for pedestrians at every crosswalk around the roundabout, not just the one you're approaching.
→ Stay calm if you miss your exit. Just go around again. It's built for that.

Once it clicks, roundabouts are honestly less stressful than a four-way stop.

The school pickup line is its own kind of driving lesson, and a lot of parents are relearning it right alongside their kids this month.

A few things that make it smoother for everyone: pull all the way forward when directed, even if it feels like you're getting too close to the car ahead. Keep an eye out for kids cutting between cars, since that's where most pickup line close calls happen. And resist the urge to wave a pedestrian through if a staff member is already directing traffic. Mixed signals cause more confusion than a short wait.

It's not glamorous driving. But it's a good reminder that patience on the road matters just as much in a school parking lot as it does on the highway.

Headlights and taillights, checked before the days get shorter

→ Walk around the car at dusk once this week and check all four lights are working — headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals
→ A burnt-out bulb is one of the easiest fixes there is, and one of the easiest things to miss
→ Cloudy or foggy headlight covers cut down visibility more than people expect — a quick polish makes a real difference
→ Days are getting shorter starting this month. More of your driving is about to happen in low light

Five minutes now beats finding out at 6:45 PM that a taillight's been out for a week.

Most drivers set their side mirrors up on day one and never touch them again, even after the car's been sold, borrowed, or shared with someone else.

Here's a quick check: sit in your normal driving position, then adjust each side mirror out just far enough that you can barely see the edge of your own car. It'll feel too wide at first. That's the point. Done right, your side mirrors and rearview should overlap just slightly, so a car disappearing from one view shows up in the next.

Done wrong, you end up with mirrors that mostly show you your own car, which means you're relying on a head check for everything.

Worth a two-minute reset before your next drive.

Learning should feel engaging, not like something to get through — and Kaiya's experience with instructors Jose C. and Tyler S. is a great reminder of what that looks like in action. Fun, memorable, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish. That's the standard we hold ourselves to every day. Thank you, Kaiya! 🌟

There's a version of driving that only exists once: the first time you drive yourself somewhere that used to require a ride.

Practice, a friend's house, work, it doesn't matter where. What matters is that nobody's in the passenger seat checking mirrors for you or reminding you to slow down at the stop sign you already know is there.

It's a smaller moment than it feels like in the car. But it's also proof that the hours of practice added up to something real.

If that first solo drive is still ahead of you, it's closer than it feels.
