Fun weekend in New Orleans.
Left Austin on Thursday and made it to Nola in time to do a show. Followed by two more shows at the Comedy House of New Orleans. Crashed with a buddy that I met the last time I was out there doing comedy. He's quickly become a great friend of mine and I wouldn't have met him if it weren't for doing this. While he had a room for me, there was no bed. I made do with what I had. Having no bed is a small sacrifice when it comes to having a roof over your head, and I'll choose that everytime over the other.
Aside from gas, I spent $3 dollars while over there. One dollar on tipping a bartender after using a drink ticket from a show. One dollar on a .99 cent Doobie Brothers vinyl. One dollar on a postcard. I got taken to cool spots that only the locals know and pick the brain of the comedy mentors in that scene. Both of those were free.
Left Louisiana Saturday morning at 10am to make a show in Temple, TX at 8pm. I was able to stop in Houston along the way and got a record I've been looking for. That record was $15 but I got it in Texas so it doesn't count towards the money spent in New Orleans. Got home at midnight and slept until 1pm Sunday morning. First thing I did was drop $43 on a camping cot so I don't ever have to sleep on the floor again. Because that s**t sucks. Also found out that it'll fit in my car, which will definitely come up later on down the line.
What did I learn from this trip?
-You make a lot of cool friends doing this.
-Being on the road doesn't have to be expensive.
-Feed the birds outside of Frady's, it's tradition. Also, got to Frady's in New Orleans. 10/10.
-A $43 cot is cheaper than a hotel. If you find a hotel that's cheaper, you're better off on the cot.
